What a milestone!

Let's see- 5 years, 5 months, 10 days since my SR5-P was unfrozen from the dealer's lot, quite literally it took them an hour to dig it out. I never even test drove it first, lol. It's never been back, not once.

During it's stay with me I have:

*replaced the windshield
*replaced the tires
*changed the oil/filter 10 times
*changed the diff/transfer case oil 3 times
*replaced the front wiper blades twice
*replaced the brake pads and rotors
*replaced both front wheel bearings.

All wear items except (arguably) the wheel bearings which I'm confident were ruined by splashing through mud at speed...
The airbag light came on for a few months and decided to fix itself.

That's it. This truck is bullet proof, and He ain't no mall crawler!

What has it been through in 100,000 miles?

*At least 2 blizzards with snow past the doors- like nothing.
*Mud that shouldn't have been passable- like nothing.
*Steep climbs, and off camber stuff that had me crapping my pants- like nothing.
*Rock crawling that left my skid plates bashed to hell, ripped off my passenger catalytic converter heat shield, cracked and gouged my front bumper and tried to rip off my rear bumper- again like nothing.
*I have been high centered on a log and teeter-tottered my way off taking hunks of wood with me...
*I have pinstripes all the way down the sides that magically disappear when waxed.
*I have had the entire right side of my truck resting on a giant boulder-sliding from front tire to rock slider to rear tire to clear an obstacle.
*I've been up trails so steep all I could see was sky.
*I have towed my boat thousands of miles.

*I have seen bears in the woods, twice.
*I have climbed trails at night to watch shooting stars and skies so clear you could see satellites passing overhead.
*I have used it as a base camp.
*I have slept in the back in 27 degree weather.

*I have met life-long friends from across this country thanks to this forum and my T4R.

Amazing friends!

In 46 years I have only had one other vehicle that I could stand enough to make it through the 6 figure mark. I think this one is just getting broken in!
Seriously, the interior looks like new. Leather seats are still firm with the only wear showing on the seat bolster- and that is only wrinkles. Perfect.

I can't think of any other single vehicle that suits my needs better and I am thankful to own this beast.

Thanks Toyota. Thanks T4R.org. Here's to another 100K.

Congrats! That's awesome! Hope I have half as many stories in my truck in the next 90k miles. As a part of this forum I'd like to thank you! All of your insights, mods and humor really keep this forum going. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to meet up someday, my parents still live in Maryland and I still own a house in Baltimore so you never know...love to buy you a beer!

To the next 100k!

That would be great!

You should really try to attend The Cove trip this year. Great way to meet awesome people and see what your 4Runner can do!

Congratulations.
I too appreciate all of your insight and willingness to provide advice and instruction. I know I will be putting many things into practice that you have shared here when I finally get my new 4Runner.
I hope I am as happy with my new rig as you are with yours. Here's to the next 100k miles!

I would love to, that trip looks great! Unfortunately its tough for me to get off of work to travel on times when school is in session (yes I'm just a lowly middle school Earth & Space Science teacher). I can't complain since I only work 10 months out of the year, but I am actually one of those who loves their job and don't like to take off on non-breaks. I know it is usually in October so if it works out around one of our "extended weekends" I'll certainly do my best to make it up (I'll have to start earning the brownie points with the wife as the kids are probably too young for that type of road trip with camping yet).

I'll be up in the Baltimore area the last week in June and 1st week in July visiting family (doing the 4x4 101 class at Rausch Creek on July 2nd). Maybe we can find a time for me to get you that beer!

Congrats again!

Daily driver and so far spending about 30% of time/mileage off-road. Previous truck 2004 Land Rover Discovery that also spent about a third of it's life off-road. I HANG AROUND HERE "THE T4R FASHION FORUM" JUST FOR LAUGHS.
Perfect vehicle as it stands for northern Nevada terrain. Keep it stock - it'll go most anywhere as is.

Well done! Your creativity has been inspiring and helped ease the uncertainty and fear I had in cutting into my own 4Runner. I wouldn't have tried half of what I've done otherwise.
