Introduction and Question

Hey Guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I've got a 2010 5th gen limited, and have found your insight invaluable as I initially considered my purchase and today as I enjoy the vehicle.

However, I have a question. This morning we did some trails at Flaming Gorge, and the car handled perfectly (for a stock limited, at least). Then I let the fiance take the wheel as we headed toward Denver, and long story short, we've got some bumper liner (is that the name of the part?) damage.

We had pulled into a rural gas station in Wyoming, and decided to continue a bit further down the road to a gas station with a bit more to offer. When she continued on to pull back onto the road, she drove into a little drainage ditch (maybe 14" deep max) - it was right in front of the truck and she didn't see it over the hood. The ditch was narrow enough that the bottom of the front bumper took the damage - the actual front bumper cover appears to be fine. But what I am calling the bumper liner (the not painted pieces that attach to the bumper and give an extra inch or two of a ground effect type look) is all messed up.

My question is: what do you guys recommend? I swear I saw somewhere on here that many guys have cut this part(s) out anyway to increase the clearance up front? Is this advisable for somebody that spends 99% of the time on road? What impact will this have? I noticed that this part connects to the liners in the front wheel wells...I assume these liners need to stay?

Or what kind of cost am I looking at to replace? I'll reiterate that the only damaged pieces here are liner elements - the bumper cover and any critical parts up front are unscathed.

Thanks for all of the help. I'll try to get some pics loaded sometime in the next 24 hours.

George

You can probably price out a replacement piece online. There are a couple of online retailers of OEM body parts that should have it covered. Sounds like something you could replace in your driveway.

I'd have to search to remember exactly, but I believe the consensus was that the black piece was there for gas mileage and/or road noise improvement. I would personally remove and not replace it. Looks better without this piece anyway.

If its the part that I'm thinking of, it looks like you can source that part for $80.59 plus shipping (see item #11). However, its it not visible from the front or the damage is interfering with something, why not just leave it alone?

[Edit]: If you are talking about the plastic undercover (item 18), looks like that is running around $221 and change. At any rate, hopefully these links will help you find what you need.

Hey George! I took mine off and I love the look. I don't offroad mine (yet) either. Check out these links...

SR-5 "Body Kit"

Has anyone removed this piece?
