Is that thing seriously $330? Sounds like a cool idea but not for that much. They are making some insane amount of profit on those units.

Have one on my 2011 limited- just put in on this week. This is what the car should have been in terms of throttle control from the factory. The green setting (lowest) is best. The car is no faster, just reacts differently to peddle. I know going up hills i can make the car react the same with more throttle but it was just not like any other car i have driven how dead this peddle was. It feels much better. I got it for $299. It is pricey but its pretty cool and i like it and that is what counts.

Is the unit that they sent plug and play or did you have to modify it with a heat shield as in previous posts?

Wrapped the heater core pipe with DEI titanium exhaust wrap, held in place with stainless steel ties, then covered a piece of a windshield sun reflector with Dei heat shield tape and slid that between the exhaust wrap and the wiring loom. The exhaust wrap is some really neat stuff, with lava rock in the fiberglass wrap. There are 2 heater core tubes under there. The one covered with the exhaust wrap, i can touch forever and no problem. Keep your fingers on the uncoated one and you'll burn. Huge heat difference. The job is a pain in the arse.

One other thing about the sprint booster... I think for off roading or in ice/snow, the way the 4runner pedal is stock is perfect for throttle control, you want an unreactive pedal for that. The beauty is you just turn the sprint booster off when you need to. The green setting is really good for everything else. The red setting will go wide open at like 1/2 pedal.

Does the cruse control respond any better with this installed?

Fitment is way off I returned mine, I will wait till sprintbooster makes a jumper harness that will allow main unit not be jammed up against the heater core pipes. 300. Bucks for a unit that dosnt fit properly???

Seems kinda rediculous to pay 300 clams for something and need to perform any alterations to get it to fit! I will admit something like this is exactly what the 5th gen needs. IMHO. Had a friend with a dodge ram that got something like this. It essentially takes out the "old person" pedal. Like grandma's ol' "blue-hair" Buick if ya know what I mean...

Zombie thread resurrection..
So I bought a new 2016 SR5 4x4 a few weeks ago and while I love almost everything about it, I was surprised and honestly disappointed in how this 270 HP truck actually felt weaker in terms of get up and go than my 190 HP '97 4Runner... on 35s with full armor, steel bumpers and a few hundred lbs of tools and gear in the back. I know many 5th gen owners are content with just mashing the pedal down to get some decent acceleration out of these trucks, but having to do that every time personally made me feel like my new truck was an anemic slug. And it honestly took a lot of the fun out of the whole experience of driving this new vehicle. I tried to get used to it, but the laggy throttle and acceleration was still very annoying, even after a few weeks of owning the truck, and I realized I wasn't personally ever going to be content with it (contrary to what many on here say). Maybe the difference for me is when I jump back in my 3rd gen and it FEELS like it has more get up and go than my 5th gen. That's just wrong.

We all know these trucks have the power there, but having to persuade it that much to tap into that power is bullshit, plain and simple. Even my wife said she had problems getting it up to freeway speed because it just felt so unnatural to have to give it that much gas just to keep up with the other cars on the road.

I figured if a spent almost $40Gs on this thing, I could risk $300 on the Sprint Booster and see if it makes this truck feel the way they should have made it from the factory. I'm happy to say the SB made all the difference for me. The driving experience really does come down to the feel. The SB makes this truck A LOT more fun to drive, even though I know it's just "perceived power". My foot likes it now, and so does the rest of me.

The earlier fitment issues have also been addressed. My wiring is not in danger of melting on the heater core pipes like the earlier SB models. I read a lot of negative comments about the SB because all it does is change the throttle curve, but I'll tell you, it makes a noticeable difference in how the truck responds. And that's huge. And almost 100% of the negativity I read was from people who were only speculating on the SB and never tried it for themselves. If you love your 5th gen the way it is and don't mind having to floor it to get it to go, more power to you.. but I'll never look back.

How has it affected the fuel efficiency and shifting? I imagine it makes it more peppy by offsetting the throttle position, I'm just curious if the transmission has adapted to always being run on a "heavy foot" vs. typical slow ramp up that it was designed for in the programming.

I got 18.6 (calculated) MPG combined city/highway on my first tank, and 18.7 on my 2nd tank - both without the SB. I've only gone 1 full tank with the SB, and I averaged 18.6 again. So I haven't seen any significant difference. The tranny holds the gears a little longer in the SB's "green mode", but still far from winding out.. maybe a couple hundred higher rpms for each shift point. I would say it's very similar to having my ECT button on in my 3rd gen (which is pretty much always on). In the "red mode" it holds each gear a lot longer, but I don't personally ever see myself using red mode, it's more than necessary for me. Green mode is perfect.
