Coming from a full size truck

So has anyone here that owns a 4runner made the move to this SUV from a full size truck?

I currently own a Crew Cab Titan and have been thinking about downsizing to something with a little better gas mileage. However, I keep arguing with myself about how nice it is to have all of that room in the bed to put stuff in. I'm an avid hunter and fisherman so having room to store stuff for fishing and camping trips is a big deal to me. Maybe the new 4runner has enough room with the seats folded down.??

I came from an 08 Tundra and understand your feelings. With the seats down, you have about the same amount of room as you would a Tacoma with a cap; there's really a lot of room. I get 23mpg on the highway running 65, and get 18.7 around town consistantly.

Came from Honda Ridgelines (3!) and while it did not have a large bed it had a big trunk. I thought long and hard before getting a SUV but so far it has hauled everything I can throw at it except a fridge. Buy a small open trailer if you need it.

Yup. I still have my 2000 Silverado Z71 with 173K miles on it.

Well, I do have a 4x8 trailer.

I took one for a ride about 2 weeks ago and really liked it. Just an SR5. I would prefer the trail edition, but they are hard to come by. Does the trail edition ride different/better than SR5 or Limited?

Came from an 06' Titan CC LE....

Worse thing I ever did ( that, and between these two was CX-9 Mazda)

Its taken some getting use to, and I picked up an extra M116A2 for dump runs and take the place of the bed. Here's the refurb link

M116A2 Facelift

Titan was a great truck, but this has had many advantages ...mpgs, still fun to drive, to name a few....I say buy with confidence, just pick up a beater trailer to fill the gap.

Good luck, Pat

PS...there's a couple of us left overs from TT...so I'm sure others will chime in as well

Yes. The SR5 rides like a hobby horse with it's stock suspension. The TE with KDSS virtually eliminates body roll in turns due to the beefier sway bars, but you still get some nose dive under hard braking. The Limited's XREAS suspension also does a good job of controlling body roll as well as nose dive, but any upgrade to the suspension means removing it altogether, unlike the KDSS on the TE, which stays put.

I have the same question/concern. Currently have a 2011 Tundra Platinum (my wife loves the size of the truck and the creature comforts), but it just seems like a lot more truck than we need. Mileage is decent considering the size, but I'd love to get over 20+ on the highway again (previously had a 2003 and then a 2007 4Runner). Other opinions are appreciated!

Wouldnt bet on the 20+ never got much more than 18 on mine. Lift and 33" mt dropped it to under 17 mpg.

I came from a CrewCab Titan as well. No regrets here! I just strapped a bunch of 10' fence posts to my Gobi last week which is the first time I would have needed the truck bed. Other than yard waste, and mulch I don't miss the bed at all. Go for it! You will love it just for the fuel mileage difference...

Oh yeah- nothing will make up for the sound and raw power of that wonderful 5.6L V8 in the Titan though! I DO miss that.

I just switched from a 2010 Tundra Crewmax Platinum to a 2011 4Runner TE myself. I loved the interior space of the Tundra, but hated the mileage and sheer size and parking of the truck. Once I no longer needed the towing capability of the Tundra the 4Runner became a nice substitute for my remaining needs.

I quickly added a 3" OME lift and some 285/70/17 Duratracs to the 4Runner and absolutely love how it looks. Having a wife and 3 kids the 4Runner still has enough room to fit us all, and should work nicely for ski trips in the mountains. About the only thing I'm not completely happy with is the power (or lack of) that the 4Runner has in comparison to the Tundra. The Tundra had lots of power, but it seems that the 4.0 V6 in the 4Runner (while adequate) doesn't have that same fun factor when you mash the gas pedal.

All in all though the 4Runner is a great vehicle from what I can see so far. Hopefully it'll last me for a long while

Came from a Titan myself. Got the Runner for all time 4wd and now have a trailer to tow my toys around. Loved Titan, never had problems with it. My advice, keep the Titan.. Especially if its paid off
