Aries Grille Guard for 5th Gen T4R

What do you guys know about this Aries brand...I know nothing about grille guards and I see they have them for the 5th Gen T4R....Thinking about a black grille guard....if anyone knows how these are or if there are better ones out there please give me a heads up. Thanks

Save your money...grille gaurds do cause more damage in an accident. Not sure why people still buy them.

If I were you, bug KC to make a light bar and stick with that...or...wait until there are some aftermarket bumbers for this thing.

In a head on collision it might cause more damage, but you are probably talking looking at a complete front end replacement anyway. As far as smaking a deer or bear you will wish you had one. Plus they are called Brush Guards not accident guards; if you do off roading on trails hardly ever used the guard will keep the trees and brush from scratching/denting the front end. One more good point to have one is in close parking scenarios. If the car in front of you backs into you it will more than likely hit the gaurd instead of the bumper.

I added the Westin Safari light rack to my 2010 runner last week - it was an exact fit where it bolted to the body, although I did have to cut out some of the lower plastic scoop on the car to allow the bars to pass through. Westin says they are redesigning this for the 2010s but I don't know how they are going to bolt it on without having to remove or cut out part of that little plastic scoop. I assume their other brush guards would attach at the same point. I put mine on as a tie point for canoes, but it also happens to improve the looks of the vehicle too - very subtle, not overpowering.

I didn't take any closeups, and right now it is covered with mud and snow. I did a hack job on the cutting with a saws-all and I suspect it won't look too good in photos - no one would ever be looking that close anyway. I had to cut out the top of the little plastic scoop a couple of inches wide, and then down about the same size as the 2" bar itself - so probably about 2 x 2 out of the plastic. If someone took their time and made round cutouts they could make it fit pretty close and you would never see it even if you got down on your knees to inspect.

Aspen,

Can you repost your pics of the light bar? For some reason in the older threads, I can't pull them up. Thanks!

Aries Grille Guard
If you really want a brush guard, I would highly recommend Arc-Rite over Aries. The Arc-Rite ones are built like a brick s***house! I know plenty of people who have hit deer at highway speeds with them and had little or no damage. They don't list the 5th gen on their website, but thay are available. The basic black one goes for $405 plus shipping. They also have a Euro model with an extra bar on top and extra headlight guards. The other cool thing is the fact that they custom build each one, so they can add any light/winch brackets or other stuff you want. The turnaround is only a week or so. The brush guard will not affect your ground clearance, but it will affect the approach angle a bit. It weighs around 70lbs, but from what I can tell, the front suspension will not lose any noticable height. Plus they don't have the weird rubber bumpers like the Aries. www.arcrite.com
