Two lift questions

Search is your friend, I know, I did.

First, I am ordering the FJ3-FRCC kit from Toytec with the diff drop and no top plate spacers. I will be using stock shocks. With the OME 884s will I need a spacer to fix the lean? If so, do I do the Toytec spacer or the OME trim packer?

Second, those of you with 3" lifts, could someone measure from the ground to the high point on the stock roof rack? I would like to be sure that I will still be able to get into my garage before I buy the kit. If I cannot I will need to go with a smaller lift or just a leveling kit.

Thanks!

Tire size will matter too.

I'm no rocket scientist, but couldn't you just measure what it is now and add 3" to it?

Yes and no, mainly because of tire size. Just like measuring at the fender, its not always dead on. Most with a 3" lift are on 285s, so that is where my question really comes into play. I am thinking around 4-4.5" difference with the lift and 285s, but want to be sure. Nothing like taking the roof rails off going into the garage the first time.

You might want to make sure you check the L bracket (if applicable), that connects the garage door to the chain that the motor operates.

Mine hangs down pretty low. My 4runner (no lift, but has BFG's)clears the garage...but that L bracket dug into the crossbars pretty bad a few times when I would close the garage after new tires were installed......had to adjust and move the rear crossbar forward to prevent that L bracket from scratching up that crossbar every time I would close the garage with the 4runner parked.

May not be applicable to you, but I didn't realize what was happening for a few days...

Anyone know about the spacer to cure the lean? With my guess, I should have enough space to clear my garage.

I had the same kit on my Trail except I did the topout spacers as well and I had 285/70/17 BFG KM2's on it and from the ground to my roof rack was about 78in

I also did nothing to fix the lean it was about 3/8 of an inch so I didn't bother with it.

Hope this helps

I cured my lean with the airlift 1000 airbags. Cost me like $90 and I just keep more air on the driver's side - lean cured. Plus, when I tow or haul a lot there is no sagging issues either!

If the Toytec Superflex springs sag like the stock ones did I am also going to be adding airbags to the rear for towing. I would think they do better under load, but we will see.

The OME front trim packer will not work with the stock shocks. To cure the driver side lean we offer a 1/4" top plate spacer.

Front Top Plate Spacer (One - 1/4") - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

The superflex coils have a 10% increase in spring rate over stock, so they will be able to handle weight a little better than the stock coils. However, if you are going to be towing a big trailer, it doesn't really matter what spring you have, you will see some sag. The air bags are the only way to compensate.

If you guys have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks!

Jeff

On some vehicles, or maybe most, the drivers side is slightly lower then the passenger side. So if you look closely from the front or rear, it looks as though the vehicle is leaning.

No perfect answer.

No 2 lifts come out alike. Had an experienced shop install Toytec Ultimate Lift on my 2010 Trail Edition 4runner. Installer said in his experience, the 5th gen 4runners come out much higher than spec. Supposed to be 2.5" preset from Toytec. Sure enough, front ended up +4.5"on drivers side and + 4" on passenger side. Rears were +3". Looked awesome and cleared the 285/70 Al Terrains on 17 x 8 rims with ease but I was a little worried about the CV joints. I ended up readjusting myself. Very simple. You just need a high lift jack. Now I'm +2.5" front. Couldn't do anything with the rears (not adjustable) but they have settled to about +2.5". Fronts scraped the rear part of the wheel well a bit at full turn. Used a heat gun and some light trimming and everything clears OK now.

Ride is a little firmer than stock but not very noticeable. I actually like it better and the nose does not dive on hard braking like it used to.

Bottom line. GO FOR IT! There are other remedies if you don't clear the garage. Remove the racks. Smaller tires. Or just close your ears. You can't see up there anyway.
