Took the TE off-road this weekend

First time off-roading in the new 4Runner. I must say the KDSS was pretty cool. I felt like I could go over anything with ease. I was feeling so confident I thought I'd attempt a water crossing... That was a bad idea. Luckily I found some local rednecks, God bless them, to pull me out with their Polaris + wench. They said I would have had to been going 40mph to make it through that mud.

From the dealer lot to the dirt roads. Wicked awesome! I don't even see a plate on your vehicle yet.

Where did you find that much water in Texas?

You might want to consider getting some rock rails.

Better tires would have helped with that mud. A civic with enough speed could clear just about anything too

Has anyone actually measured how much 'flex' you get with kdss vs non-kdss te's?

Make sure you hit your wheels and undercarriage with a good pressure washer. Mud like that can seriously reduce the lifespan of your wheel bearings and other components.

I avoid mud holes like that in newer vehicles. Thick mud like that really makes a permanent mess and is hard to clean up. I would find a old beater 4x4 if you are going to play in the mud a lot. I play in the desert but we do not have mud. We have a lot of dust but it easily rinses off.

I avoid mud in both of my trucks now. I have had to replace two rear main seals because of it.

Crossbars on the TE?

Tex,

Did the dealer provide the Trail model crossbars for your roof rack? I believe that they should have been included standard--not an extra charge--and typically installed on your Trail.

Oh, and what did yer local good ol boys use as a recovery point to pull the truck out?

Cheers,
Brad

Man I hate mud, its so unpredictable. Water crossings, rocks etc. you can go slow and plan your route. Mud its just like hope for the best. That area didn't look that bad around your truck, but man did it ever sink in. Glad someone was around to pull you out!

Sweet truck. I second the rock rails, its cheap insurance man, crush a rocker panel and the 500$ you didnt spend on rails will seem like pennies.

Sorry.. Newb here, but whats a Rocker Panel? & Can I install that on my Limited?

I figured these 4 runners 4x4 were pretty much built to go anywhere. Whats matter with mud ? a thorough hosing down wont do the trick ?
