Yeah, sometimes I'll feel a bit of a grind but the trick is to just shift as smoothly and as quickly as possible. I've never heard much of an audible grind. The 4Runner actually has a really smooth shifting transfer case compared to other 4x4s I've owned. My Nissan felt like it was falling apart when I shifted it into 4LO.
