2018 is Generation ???

OK here's a post. While looking at buying a new or lightly used 2019/18 model SR5, I came on line here to check out which generation the 2018 is and edumucate myself a bit more than I am already. And I noted that the 5th generations forum only list up to model year 2017, and this 6th Gen forum only lists 2019's. So, ummm, what Gen is the 2018 model year ? 5.5 perhaps ??

I don't understand what's going on with this forum.

2018 and 2019 4runners are absolutely 5th gens

2020 4unner looks like it is literally a 5th gen 4runner as well, based on what rumors or whatever is going around that I've seen. They added a bigger screen and put an ugly panel in the grille for "safetysense" and now we have a 6th gen section?

OK, I thought it was just me missing something as I've been off the site a while. The last couple of years to include 2019 all look the same inside and outside as far as I can tell. So they're all 5th Gens of course.

Should probably only take an Admin like 5 minutes to edit the descriptions and hyperlinks on the main page of the forum.

There have been numerous topics about 6th generation speculation in various forums. I think the 6th gen forum was created to catch all of that.

In the meantime the 5th generation continues with a 1/3rd cycle refresh in 2014 and a 2/3rds cycle refresh in 2020. Engine, transmission, body, and interior remain mostly the same with a few technology and minor aesthetic changes in each of the 2 refreshes.

Will it take another few years for the 6th gen, we'll have to wait and see, nobody knows. Will it have the 3.5 liter engine like in the Taco and an 8 speed or more transmission, nobody knows that either.

I just don't see how Toyota can call what they're doing in 2020 a refresh.
They changed the radio, added safety sense, and...? That's not a refresh (IMO) - that's just adding a few features.
In 2014 they at least updated the look of the truck.

As for 6th gen... I fall in with the group that doesn't think you'll get one until 2022 or 2023 after Toyota releases the new TLC and Tundra. Which is fine by me, that means mine will be 6 or so years old by the time a Gen6 is over a year old to iron out all the kinks. I might be able to justify a new one by then.

I agree the Admin needs to edit the purpose of this forum.

2018 & 2019 models are 5th Gens. Not sure why the forum lists it incorrectly.

Hey some people have a hard time with English and knowing how to determine years. 5th gen stops at 2017 and 6th gen says 2019, but 18 and 19 are 5th gens. and no one does anything to correct the issue other than move threads and not fix the text.

The 2020 Model is a 5th Gen as well. We dont see a 6th gen for a few years.
