Every source has said that 2023 MY is the soonest we will see it. this hasn't changed for years now - although it may very well be delayed.
No one has said 2022 MY release b/c that's the first year of the new Tundra.

The source was a screenshot of marketing presentation given at Toyota US corporate event.

Well the tundra was pretty much hush hush until just a while ago and it’s being released this year. So the 4Runner could most definitely be released in 23. Info could start trickling next year and than more info jus like the tundra this year. Remember the tundra was kept under wraps until someone leaked it. Only reason why Toyota released the pic. Yet still no one knows the engine and the tundra is coming out in months.

So this thing that ther hasn’t been any news on a new 4Runner really doesn’t mean much. The 4Runner can also be kept low key and and maybe even more since it will have a new body style as well. If it’s coming in 23. Than they will be hitting lots next fall of 22. That’s not far off from a potential madness by Toyota.

Wish all options were available in any trim - for instance you cant get leather, locker and 3rd row.

Wish List
Dont change much - stress reliabilty and function
Keep the large knobs for as much as possible
2-3 more MPGs avg
Shorter grill in front of radiator. Do not like how 5g stick out so far.
Better rust proofing
Easy oil filter access
Full length roof rack rails
Carplay

Yes! 2 door with a removable roof, 4 door like it is with new tech and an 8 speed transmission.

tundra looks pretty solid, do like the pro just not the location of the battery under the rear seat. The V6 twin turbo should be tunable and up HP & TQ even more.

next gen 4runner
v6 twin turbo
new infotainment center
body styling simliar to the tundra

Frame on body
3rd gen size
Less bloated appearance
Roll down rear window
Toyota grill. The new you tube mock up looks good the one that mimic new land cruiser.
True 4 wheel drive
Electric or hybrid
Better sound proofing interior
Better rust protection
Cleaner interior, more streamlined
Better interior materials
Wash out floor like new bronco, why are there carpets in cars?
Better seats

Use the 3rd gen as a model. As was best 4runner out there.

Keep:
Manufactured in Japan or USA.
Body on frame.
17 inch wheels.
4WD lever.
Knobs on the dashboard, rather than icons on a screen.

Minor tweaks:
A panel of accessory switches on top of the dashboard.
USB-C power - 1 in front row, one in the second row.
5-wheel tire pressure monitoring, with specific pressure readouts for all 5 on the dashboard.
An Anderson power output in the rear cargo area.
A full-length roof rack so we can get bolts up front.
Toyota grill.
