I've driven 4runners since the 2nd gen and I have some requests for the next gen:
1. I would really love to bring back the AC vent under the steering column that was on the Gen 2/3. The 5th gen perforated aerated seats kind of suck compared to just blowing ac directly into your shorts. Send the engineers to Texas in August and they'll be motivated to put that vent back.
2. I would like a more comfortable steering wheel.
The spot where the hard plastic T meets the bottom of the wheel pinches my fingers on long road trips.
3. make the cargo area 100% flat when the seats are down. This helps when sleeping in the back and sliding stuff into the cargo area.
4. please ditch the stupid round toyota symbol and replace with TOYOTA (like the old land cruiser).
5. people in the gulf region off road too- so sell the 4wd with KDSS in the gulf region- i had to fly from Texas to the mountain region to buy the truck i wanted.
6. make the headlights brighter and then double that.
Thanks

New transmission and modern niceties are what I want in the 6th gen 4R. 8 speed or 10 speed to match current vehicles at least. The 4th gens have a nice soft touch plastic interior so it was strange that the 5th gens went largely hard touch plastic.

Hi there. I had a 3rd gen. I drive a 4th gen. I am buying a 5th gen (hopefully soon). I will have a 6th gen.
I never post but this thread is an amazing collection of design ideas for the 6th gen. Toyota engies are getting free input as they lurk (you know they do).
My take - When I do make the switch from my V8 to the 4.0, it will be an adjustment. Love my V8. My #1 hope is the 6th gen will have some motor options with bigger hp/torque and mpg obviously. With manual options if I want to get greedy.
Of course this coming 6th gen has to let the world know, Toyota is THE king of the off-road SUV world. No biggie.

Do not:
Make it a unibody
Give it a high hp turbo 4cyl engine
Give it a "fuel efficient" 10 speed transmission
Decrease the towing capacity
Remove the roll down rear window
Please do:
Offer a manual transmission
Offer a removable hardtop version
Keep it badass, there are enough boring RAV4s, Foresters, Outbacks, and countless other high mpg AWD grocery getters out there. Many of the folks who buy 4runners actually use them to haul trailers and gear and offroad.

Horsepower
Don't need a V8 due to the weight add - but a higher output V6 would be appreciated. 50-75 HP please!

Many 5th Gen owners complain of the 4Runner being underpowered by the offered V6 engine. I prefer my vehicles to be extremely underpowered, so please bring back a 4-cylinder option.
I also find this 5th Gen 4Runner has too many doors. Please bring back the 2-door model from the 1st Gen.
Speaking of that 1st Gen, I also prefer a removable top. The currently offered sunroof just doesn't cut it. Bring back an option to pop the top!
And what is with all of these USB ports and power outlets in the 5th Gen? At least you could have left me my cigarette lighter. Bring it back!
And with all the complaints about Navigation this and Entune that, just give me back my simple cassette player.
Speaking of navigation, this silly back-up camera! The picture is sharp when I look at it on my navigation screen, but I can't for the life of me find the button that allows me to print the picture like a polaroid. Please make the button to print easier to find!

And probably makes the power too high in the rpm range to be useful to a truck (like my wife's Tacoma with the 3.5L).
Give me a low end torque monster, whether gas or diesel. However, the only thing that would tempt me away from my 5th gen would be a diesel with a 6 or 8 speed.

The absolute number one thing I would want is a center differential (in the off road trims. I know the current limited already has this). Either full time AWD (H4 and L4) or switch between H2, H4 and L4. I'd like to see clutch type or Torsen LSD's that can also be locked (in either H4 or L4), either with a button or automatically, I don't really care. If they did this one thing, I would trade in my 2017 TRD Off Road in a heartbeat. If they do not do this, in all likelihood I'll just keep what I have.
I'd also like:
360 Cameras, including birds eye views and front camera
More clearance, probably via optional 34" or 35" tires (this option would include proper gear ratios in the diffs)
Adjustable air suspension with entry height, normal height, off road height(s), extraction height
Second row seats that fold flat
And:
Additional safety features above what my '17 has, lane change assist, blind spot warnings, cross traffic alerts, stuff like that (some of this already exists in models newer than my '17)
Better Infotainment (again, improvements have already been made in models newer than my '17, but there is still plenty of room for more improvement.)

>Tighter turning radius.
>Shorten the front end. There is 12 inches of wasted space between the radiator and the grill.
>Always live 12 volt outlets and USB ports in the rear cargo area.
>More covey hole/storage pockets in the rear cargo are. Also tighten up the plastic panels that cover the rear wheel wells. Had those off when adding a live 12 volt and USB ports back there and determined almost 5 inches of width could easily be gained by doing so.
>Rear seating that folds flat and doesn't require the front seats to be moved forward when folding the seats down.
>Full set of aluminum skids that cover the Cats and protects them from being stolen. Include wide access hatches to oil filter and drain plugs.
>A slide out drawer under the rear seats that locks and slides out to either side. Large enough to hold a couple of Goose guns or fishing poles.
>Storage drawer locker under the cargo floor that locks. Make the rear hatch swing open and mount the spare tire to it like FJ Cruiser. Have a fold down table mounted to the inside of the door.

Not sure about that last one. The only thing preventing me from upgrading to a GX is its age and that rear door. If they kept the ability to lower the rear window I might consider it.
