Let's take one of the largest SUV's...... that people only buy because they need to move a lot of stuff or people, and reduce the cargo space in the rear by 25%.....but we'll give you a flexy shelf you can use to make it flat and market it as a feature!

When I say someone reviewing the new Sequoia and talk about the "cool" new shelf in the back, I almost spit out my coffee! WTF was Toyota THINKING?? They totally ruined the cargo area!
Don't get me started on no more power rear gate window .

Yeah this is the one thing that has me hesitant on newer model Toyota SUVs as well. Watching Videos on the new Sequoia I was all in on appearance and functionality, but then they showed the new interior set up and the lack of space in the back. I really want to see one in person because I’ve been thinking about going Land Cruiser for a while (tho really pricey on the car and on gas), and the Sequoia is a more affordable option. But the whole rear end of the car on the inside is pretty garbage, and I don’t think I’d get enough space out of it. Plus I hate captains chairs and from what I’ve seen all of the upper tier options remove bench seating.

Tech/Gas Mileage
I for one would love to have some better gas mileage as much as I go to the mountains or offroad I drive way more in the city. Also some tech improvements would go a long way even if it were minimal so it's at least getting with the times.

I would love to see a Manual Transmission and a V8 as an option or at least a six speed automatic, but I feel we are more likely to get a CVT with a plug-in hybrid. As for something that could actually happen, redesign the doors to come off easily like the Wrangler and new Bronco, I feel they are the only competition to the T4R.
I also hope they do not make the frame any larger, if anything they could make it slightly more narrow 3" and maybe delete the 3rd row option and reduce the length by 4-6". Add in 4 way adjustable lumbar support, heated steering wheel, cooling seats, a panoramic sunroof and bigger tires.
Bring back the TRD supercharger too!

Make a low cost, basic model based on the SR5 (keep the SR5 in the lineup). Keep the running train, skids and tires the same as the current model. Cut costs by going with simpler steelies or steel w/polycast coating wheels like older Tacoma SR5s. Make infotainment a basic AM/FM Bluetooth without the screen and apps. No 3rd row. Get rid of the dial activated transfer case, replace with the classic J-gate lever. Cover the floor with rubber. Get rid of all electronic safety nannies allowed and still be legal.
This model should be priced substantially low enough to separate it from the SR5 and attract those who like to “roll their own” rigs, making modding less expensive. And attract new buyers who want a solid, usable rig without some of the bling that even an SR5 has.

Yup. I read somewhere that Toyota essentially admitted that the multi-tier back shelf thingy was a compromise...meaning Toyota really didn't know what to do with the battery pack. That's a joke on a vehicle that has a base model sitting at $60K.
I'm afraid something similar will happen with the 6th gen 4runner. The 4runners with 3rd row seating will have Lexus GX-like room back there.

Interesting. Make one trim level that would appeal to the people who like the setups of the past and then the rest of the trims could be for the folks who dream of a hybrid/electric/turbo (etc.) future.
Toyota could make that work.

This forum seems like crickets most of the time, is it because the 4Runner is so old that few bother to visit?
Does anyone visit other 4Runner forums, that are more active, besides this one, if so, which ones?

Probably because we're 18 pages into the discussion, and once people found out the 2023 (or maybe even '24?) was not going to a 6th Gen, people lost interest.

I've been thinking the same thing. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot more new things to talk about, especially now that the 6th gen is being pushed back even further

I'd bet the 6th gen threads will get active again once Toyota makes up its damn mind as to which MY the thing is actually going to be redesigned.
Toyota has been crying wolf for years now. I would guess most are in a see-it-to-believe-it mode at this point.

That makes sense, since I'm new to the 4Runner world, I was wondering if they are any other 4Runner forums you guys are members of as well that would be worth me signing up for?
Since it is so slow here I thought perhaps there may be other, more active 4Runner forums out there that are worth signing up for in order to be able to follow whatever news or rumors come along over the next year of two as we await the 6th gen?

I have been reading the 4Runner forums for the past year but just joined this particular forum last week (I finally put money down for a MY23.) So...technically I am brand new to the 4Runner world myself.
While I was in browsing mode over the past 12 months, there were really only two 4Runner forums that consistently attracted new members, posts, topics. I won't name the other because I don't want to step on this website's toes. If you do a simple Google search, you'll spot it with no problems.
Personally, I think you are on the best 4Runner forum right here. Nothing wrong with the other one, I just saw no reason for duplication. There are a number of people that seem to have accounts on both...even to the point of having the same ID and avatar. Perhaps, they see value in getting info from multiple sources. I have been happy using t4r.org as my go to and don't feel I am missing anything. Just an opinion.

I like 4Runners dot com.
Seems to be more active, doesn't have all the annoying pop up ads, and keeps me logged in.
Also, going on 4 years now and this site is STILL calling a 2019+ the 6th gen?? Come onnnn.
