What would you like to see in a 6th gen?

I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but since there's a 6th gen forum now, I figured why not share what you'd like to see from the 6th gen. Here's my miscellaneous thoughts:

Engine: More HP and more torque than the current 4.0 with an updated transmission. I'm no expert in what Toyota has that they can put in there but as long as it's not the pretty-much-universally-reviled 3.5 V6/6AT from the Tacoma I'd be happy, maybe a 3.5V6/8AT. A V8 option would be cool but seems unlikely.

Transfer case: I'd like to see an option for an AWD type mode, like in the current Limiteds, but with a RWD option as well. A selector for 2Hi/4Hi/4lo plus a center locker would be great. I think this might be similar to the old multi-mode t-cases?

Body/Frame:
  • More aluminum! Less weight and less rust is always a win in my book. I think there's places they could swap in aluminum, like the hood and rear hatch, to save weight without sacrificing anything. More high-strength steel in the frame would be good for weight reduction too. Anything to get the MPGs up a bit.
  • Keep the roll-down rear window. I also really like the two-piece tailgate like on the Land Cruiser, but I don't think there'd be a way to do that and keep the window.
  • Steel bumpers. I don't like body-colored plastic bumper covers that tend to get scratched up. A steel bumper with a straight profile (like on the new Ford Ranger) would be more durable and would let people upgrade to a heavy duty bumper without having to chop body parts.

TRD Pro: It seems like they don't do enough to differentiate the TRD Pro from the Off-road trims. So maybe add:
  • Front locker
  • Front camera (or 360° camera?)
  • Pre-wired switches for accessories, ready for you to wire in relays for your lights/winches/whatnot without tearing your brand new dash apart

Miscellaneous
  • Power folding mirrors. It's not exactly a narrow vehicle, so whether you're parking on the street or in the garage this should help prevent smashed mirrors and give more space around the parked truck
  • Better tires. I know nobody will ever agree on a what the best tire is, but shipping these with highway tires on anything but the Limited is a terrible idea
  • LED lights. There's no reason that every lamp in or on this vehicle shouldn't be LED
  • Display that shows steer angle and vehicle pitch/roll.
  • More storage spaces. Under rear seats, in the rear wheel wells, etc.

What do you guys think?

Unibody and front wheel drive. Lower the step in height. Round all those chiseled edges.

V8 would be nice, maybe an 8 speed tranny, manual would be cool, idk. I do NOT want that anemic 3.5 atkinson that they are putting in the tacos right now. Test drove one and it felt sad, but the truck itself drove fantastic. Engine and tranny felt weak tho. C'mon Toyota, give us back the V8!

Remote start, a option for a sunroof without leather. Maybe come with a full set of skids made of aluminum, yes it will cost more but that seems to be the body armor weakness. Also blind spot indicators and automatic headlights. It's weird that a vehicle costs as much as it does it bare bones. But I still love my 19 TRD off road Prem.

TTv6 from the LS500 and a reliable 8-speed transmission. Toyota could sell 200k+ models a year with that combo.

Heated steering wheel on the premiums is all I really care about having more than what my 5th gen premium has now.

Modern 8 to 10 speed is all I would want. They are pretty darn reliable nowadays, shift great, and it would improve both on and off road riding and mileage.

Engine is fine. Don’t change it.

360 degree camera system is surprisingly useful from parking to tight spots in the forest.

Well, if they could massage out more clearance and angles, improve sound insulation would be good. Infotainment they have is terrible, but I like aftermarket anyway. They should preserve the option to plug in double din, not make it fully integrated.

Some fixes that, to me, would greatly improve the vehicle-

Make all the latest safety technology standard.
Better throttle response, quicker downshifting, top notch transmission.
More low end torque. Make it a pleasure to drive leisurely and not have to get on the gas so often to get it going.
Get rid of the nose dive.
Get rid of the clunk.
More driver's right knee leg room.
Much comfier seats.
Less exterior plastic cladding, streamline the car a bit with extensive wind tunnel testing.
Get scientific about dipping then factory coating the frame and underbody to prevent rust.
Maximize interior space and storage.
Better rearview and blind-spot visibility, more of a greenhouse feel.
More durable interior finishes.
Tighter turning radius.
Factory subwoofer and very good sound system standard.
Offer a manual transmission as an option.
Aim for 22 city 26 hwy mpg- I know that's a pipe dream. The new Rav4 is supposed to get 26/35 though so maybe there's room for improvement in the 4runner.

Bring back all the designers from the Lexus GX470 back and let them loose on a well thought out and seriously engineered reboot of the 4runner.

Bring back "Thundercloud" as a color option from the 3rd gen.

I want them to do what Nissan did to the Pathfinder. Or Ford did to the Explorer. Or what Chevy did to the Blazer. Or what Caitlyn did to Bruce.
