Ya I get that its been working all these years but its showing its age. The body design of the 4runner is looking long in the tooth also. To me they need to look at what was done with the Bronco and possibly style the new 4runner similar to the fj's or old school land cruisers but with a more modern feel. That would be a winner if you coupled it with a new trans and engine. Make it a truly stock capable off-roader built to last 300K miles. THEN they will smoke the Bronco and take a huge dent out of Jeep sales.
Completely disagree. IMO, the new body styles that Ford, GM, etc. are rolling out are all inferior to their predecessors. The core appeal of the 4Runner is resistance to automotive trends.

Well I respect your opinion. I’m actually negotiating on a 2021 Limited 4x4 right now so I’ll be sticking with the 4runner.

That said, I am not a fan if they came out with a hybrid model. I genuinely wish there was a fully electric model since the markets are shifting. Toyota is just very slow at changing. with the 2035 California law being signed, I hope there is a fully electric version in the next ten years that way Toyota can grab some of the market share in the suv segment.

GM already has an all electric hummer, so i hope other companies start rolling out electric versions later. It would solve 4runners dreaded mileage problem and be a win win.

And if people complain about range anxiety on electric cars , please. Most people arent going 300 miles a day and charge at home anyways. The world is going to shift to electric in the next 15 years so this will be the last gas version 4runner Toyota will make when it is released in the next few years.
yeah an electric vehicle that you have to charge up every 400 miles. You get to spend an hour plus in a rest area, 3-4 times a day while traveling, with the other sexual deviants staring at the people in the mens rooms while waiting for your craptiastic EV to charge up.

Limiting travel is a Liberal douchebags wet dream. Next they will be telling you you cant own your own home.

Just to clarify, when you said "you get to spend an hour...with the other sexual deviants," did you mean to include yourself? Also, it seems like you have the perception that EV charging stations are attached to run-down rest areas (presumably, filled with horny truckers from the 1980s) when in reality, most are strategically placed near busy shops and restaurants giving you the freedom to select a bathroom that helps you feel the most comfortable.

I don't and will not own an EV.

You seem to know a lot about rest areas. That's weird.

I dont think rest areas are run down especially if they have new EV charging stations. One in particular was in Massachusetts, where there were many Teslas parked was nearly brand new. I still would not want to spend hours in the place because of crap technology and some Liberal telling me the sky is falling and the only way to prevent it is to buy an EV or stay at home.

If Toyota's hints are accurate - the solid state batteries will charge enough for around 300 miles in 10 minutes. That's starting to be a pretty compelling option. I can easily fit 10 minute stops every 2-3 hours into my trips. As long as there are enough charging options where we need them. That will come.

I'd buy a 4Runner prime tomorrow if they would build one. 40 miles of EV range that I charge at home. That would cover all of my local driving without ever having to go to the gas station for normal use. It would save about half of my maintenance costs - oil changes would then be more like 20,000 mile intervals. And it would give more range in the field and I could still just buy gas for long distance trips. Plus EV drive would be ideally suited for offroad power. Great torque at low speeds. Exceptionally controllable. And the ability to power camp with the onboard battery/generator system. It's an overlanding dream vehicle.

If toyota makes a non-hybrid version of the next gen 4Runner, I think we can all pretty well count on it being the last non-electrified 4Runner. The 7th gen if it exists will almost certainly be pure BEV.

Please tell us who is your personal contact at Toyota. I’m sure with all of this inside information many oauto companies would have recruited you as a “consultant” and you would be able to live the highlife by now.

This was me about 2 weeks ago. I bought a 2018 TRD ORP and I just could not get over what a side-grade it was from my 4th gen. Same motor. Same transmission. Same tow capacity. A very lacking Entune system, and the aftermarket options stink (at least the 2020s came with CarPlay). Same poor MPG for the power on tap. Visibility was much worse than the 4th gen. KDSS is very cool, that was the only thing I was excited about.

My 07 SR5 4WD came with automatic climate control, and that was missing from the newer one. I love A-TRAC and crawl control, but they took the place of the sunglasses holder that I used every day as I wear prescription glasses.

The 2018 TRD ORP is a very nice, capable vehicle. But, my 4th gen feels like it is 90% of the 5th gen for 15% of the price. I just couldn't justify that when the old one is still perfectly reliable.

The dealership I bought it from allows a 5 day return policy, and I was happy to take it back.

We owned a Tesla model 3 until recently and I can tell you, you hardly spend any more time charging than you do in a gas-only car making stops, plus with many of the models being 400 or over on range, this really isn't much of an issue. Of course, it's a different story if you're driving a Volt or a Leaf.

My dad had an ‘09 Sequoia for a while that AI thought was the sh*t. But now it does look like a giant marshmallow.

Yeah, same here but with a Tundra Platinum. We are both Toyota fans but that truck is just stuck in 2012 and that becomes more evident as you drive it more. I just could not take it anymore and returned it within a couple of days. My 2018 GMC made the 2021 Tundra feel old and weak and less comfortable, with a very unbuttoned suspension.

The dealer put up a lot of resistance but I finally got my way and made them take it back. I had to go to the GM again before that happened. They had not even sold the loan yet anyway.

Maybe the 2022 model will work or I'll just get a darn Cummins with a factory extended warranty. I sold my GMC for a ridiculous amount so I'm looking for a new truck. It is similar for the 5th Gen 4R, which also feels weak.
