North, Central and South America.
From Wikipedia:
"As of 2014, the 4Runner is sold in the United States, Canada, Central America, Bahamas, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Colombia."
The Prado and GX also are made in China, Russia and India in addition to the Tahara plant. Yeah, wouldn't buy a 4Runner made in any of those countries..
Made in Japan is a very important factor for me to buy the 4Runner. I just have a feeling a 4Runner built and designed in the USA will end up more like a Tacoma.
Sales numbers published by Automotive News shows 4Runner sales YTD are down compared to last year so the recent upgrades are just in time to extend the life of the 4Runner.

I bought my 2017 4Runner ORP for $40K and recently traded it in after 2.5 years with 43K miles and got $31K so about 78% at 30 months. The dealer I traded it in at currently has it listed for $34.8K. They'll probably sell it for $33K.

Why member are not allowed open a new Thread, how do one ask Question so SORRY to ask unrelated question.
If you would have an option to buy a 4runner limited 2018/20K miles or 2019/5K miles ($2200 more for 2019) which will be the better deal. So Sorry again for getting this question in this thread.

I had no idea the Prado and GX were built outside of Japan.
I do agree with all of your points. I wouldn't buy a GX that was made anywhere but Japan (out of the three options). And I doubt I'd buy a T4R made elsewhere either but it would depend on what my choices are.

Every Truck and Truck based SUV should be based on TNGA next time.

Yes. I know. That's not an indicator that they'll sacrifice quality and build the T4R in Mexico or US.
It's always been built in Japan, no real reason to change that especially if they no longer sale the TLC in the US.
I would think they would want to continue some kind of marque vehicle that's built in Japan.

It's going to be an all electric 4runner, going to be the Prius of off-roading.

But all those batteries would make it a heavy vehicle...oh wait...nevermind.

The article quoted KBB as the source of the resale value.
My post was in response to someone who said Wranglers have terrible resale value, which they do not.
According to KBB, Wranglers sit just below the Tacoma for resale in the US for 2019. 4runner is not too far behind at #5. I'm sure there will always be exceptions, especially regionally where the 4runner would fetch a higher price on any given day.

Since our purchase of our 2020 AG Pro, I keep getting surveys from Toyota and whatnot about the 4Runner. Basically, I've reiterated the high points of the TRD Pro in them to include the body on frame design, boxy/rugged styling, off-road capability, great visibility, seat comfort, cargo capacity, roll down rear window, etc. and have asked that they continue these features into a new generation. I also requested that they not replace the powertrain with the Tacoma set up but rather add a gear or so in the transmission. My main criticisms are lack of LED headlights and the 5 speed automatic simply because it is so old and outdated. The same can be said for the entire truck, but that is a huge reason we bought one because it is tried and true. This is a minor nitpick, but I also noticed after driving it a bit more there is no comfortable place for one's left arm if they are short and have the seat far forward because the door grab handle is in the way...
Toyota has a bit of a conundrum much like Porsche has with the 911 and Jeep with the Wrangler. They will have to redesign it eventually, but hopefully they don't stray too far from the formula that has made the 4Runner so successful. If they do what Jeep did with the new JL Wrangler vs. the JK Wrangler, they will have a winner. Additionally, if the Bronco is successful, which I believe it will be, Toyota may need to bring the FJ back with removable doors and roof to compete directly with that and the Wrangler.

I'd love to see a 1st gen style remake with removable top and a tailgate with the 6th gen

There's no difference between the two models and they both have such low miles I would go with the cheaper one. That being said, you may get better financing rates on a newer model.

Well I don't agree with some of your points because history has proven that if something works you don't have to make it something that everyone wants to sale well. Just make it more of the thing that people love and offer another vehicle in your brand that people will like when it doesn't have your modern current features. The 911, wrangler and 4 runner is a perfect example. The 911 basic design has not changed much at all and will not change. It has only improved in areas that now make it the sport car that all sport cars are measured against. My 1st 911 would look at home next to the 2020 911 turbo S. My 1st 4 runner (96 3rd gen) looks good next to my 2018 Trd pro and it is 25 years old. The 4 runner is a true SUV and the basic body style and features are easily identified by almost any offroad enthusiast almost as much as the Wrangler. The germans got the 911 right out the box and other than modern features it will stay what we know as the 911 even when it goes hybrid. The Japanese got the 4 runner right back when my dad purchase the very first 1st gen. In 2022 it will improve with a hybrid platform. It will get better mpg but not as high as the highlander. It will perform similar to all 4 runner, not terribly slow but not as quick as a rav 4 or highlander. It will be comfortable but not like the GX or LX. It will have mid level amenities but not as many as the highlander. But if you are wanting an adventure vehicle that can get you into places that most vehicles can't possibly go and do it with the dog out the back window then the 2022 4 runner will be for you. Otherwise maybe the highlander is the pretty full of amenities great car like ride and ok offroad performance vehicle that some of you will want. One thing is for sure Toyota will not screw up the 4 runner (other than the limited edition and who wants that) or Landcrusier with tons of unnecessary pretty modern tech gadgets in order to please a few buyers. They will continue to keep it more basic than their crossover SUVs. After all, that simple rugged go anywhere last for years bad ass 4wd is what they have sold it to be for over 30 years and like the Germans they won't screw up this vehicle.
