After seeing some on the road, they look like Jeep simply tried to make a 50s-looking truck. Not appealing to me.

Jeep just needs to take the next step, put a permanent cab over the back of the Gladiator, and make something approach that Safari concept. At that point they are truly competing with the 4runner. Until then, they don't have a vehicle for my lifestyle.
I've been waiting around for a long time to see what Jeep would do but I'm likely to throw in the towel and go for the 2020 5th Gen TRD Pro.

Funny, my neighbor brought home a 4 door 2016 Wrangler last week (a bridge as he needed a 4x4 until the Bronco comes out, and gets 2 model years under it before he buys it...). Then my wife and I brought home a 2020 TRD Off Road Premium over the weekend. I do like FCAs tech; every time I get into an FCA rental, I do like the interface. However, I have many friends that have had nothing but mechanical and tech problems with all generation Wranglers. I was a big fan of my friends 2019 Grand Cherokee as well; felt way ahead in tech compared to the 19 4Runner.
I still wanted my wife to test drive a Wrangler and a Gladiator, but we fell in love with the 4Runner and left with it. We knew we would though...
If you're into the the more pick-up truck, the Gladiator is your go to. If you want a MT, gladiator. Diesel? Gladiator (in 2020). Doors and roofs that come off? Gladiator/Wrangler.
We weren't after any of that stuff, but needed car play, all the Toyota safety stuff and were after the Toyota reliability. Something that is going to last 100k miles without blinking. Something that I can potentially modify for some off road use in the future. And honestly, resale value. 4Runner's don't really depreciate in CO... No plans to sell it, but nice to know we will have equity pretty quickly in it if we ever need to.
Anyway. We weighed the pros/cons, bought the 2020 4Runner. Arguments for and against both vehicles are numerous. But I wouldn't count on that Gen6 4Runner anytime soon. Toyota is selling more and more of these gen5s YoY, every year.
Funny side stat, a Porsche Club article a few weeks ago stated that the car most Cayman and Boxster owner's trade their Porsche's in for is a Wrangler.

OK, I'm quite surprised by that. Talk about one end of the spectrum to the other... from quick pace and precise handling to none of the above. LOL
Maybe it's a round headlight thing?

Yea, when I read that. I was like ??? But it makes sense if you think of it as doors and roof come off, can use it year round, and you don't really have to worry about it.
My dad keeps going back to them for some dumb reason. He's had like 3. Just buy a damn sports car, you live in florida and drive on 95 all the time. The Jeep is awful on the highway.

I bought this recently. It's not a Gladiator but it is my 8th Jeep and my 4th Wrangler (2 TJs, JKUR, and this JLUR). I have always liked Jeeps and wanted to try one more. It is a great vehicle so far, has been trouble-free (so far) and is actually quite good on the highway and awesome on the trails. It is quiet and comfortable for the blunt instrument it is. Great Alpine sound system and the 8.4" UConnect is great. Headlights are fantastic! The brakes are huge and work like you would expect without the stupid panic stop assist crap. The exhaust doesn't stink under acceleration. The oil change is a no-mess piece of cake.
However, even fully optioned it is missing many of those things I took for granted in my 4Runner. Quality of build (I never worried about the 4Runner letting me down and this is an FCA product), highway manners, comfort, good defroster/blade deicers, sliding cargo deck, decent cargo room, roll-down rear window, auto up/down windows, decent towing capacity (not a concern with the Gladiator), and many other things.
All this to say that I still question the decision to move from the 4Runner to the Jeep. I went back and forth and actually sold the 4Runner. Since then, I enjoy the Wrangler more without going between them but still miss the 4Runner.

There is not a car made today that will not make it to 100K without blinking.

Yet you went back to the Jeep because there is something there you missed too. I know, because I've had 3 myself (2 TJ's and now my JK - and would LOVE to put a CJ5 in the stable). However, we have the JK and a 4R! While often compared, the 4R and Wrangler are similar in a lot of ways, yet each is distinctly unique. I'd hate to have to choose one or the other because either way I would miss something the other offered.

I like the way the Gladiators look. Considered one but they are expensive and I just dont trust the quality. Ended up getting a 2020 4Runner recently. Came from a Tundra. Liking it so far. Be interesting to see what the 6th gen is like.

I’ll think the Gladiators are ugly too.

Was getting ready to say, whatever you have, drive it and enjoy it. Then saw in your signature that you ordered a 2020 4 Runner?
