Make the top come off, and make it a 2.4L turbo and we've come full circle . I'd be okay with that. Although I'd much rather it be a turbo 2.5 v6. The 4GR would be better base turbo engine IMO.

Nothing if you bought a 4Runner exclusively as a grocery getter. How do you deal with battery issues on the trail? Ask the JL wrangler crowd how they are dealing with the battery issues.

I just want something with a V8.

Can be a LC or a 4R.

Not picky.

Probably the same as they deal with dead wrangler engines... My buddy here just had his 3.6 melt down at 45k miles. Side of the road in southern Utah. I'm not sure I'd avoid a v6 just because Jeep's v6 sucks.

I really like the hybrid potential. If it's done right. Deep water - no problem. Run in EV mode. Auxliary power for camp? No problem, it's already built in. Ford's hybrid F150 will double as a generator. I assume Toyota will too. Instant torque to get through a mud hole? Should best anything an ICE can muster. This of course assumes it's a really great hybrid design. Whether it will be?? who knows. Could be a real shitty system too. The Tundra should tell us all we need to know about it.

If you want 8 cylinders, you'll probably have to buy two of them.

I am with you. I am a vehicle nerd and spend time on the JL forum, test drove a JL rubicon and have looked at the various models over the years. Typical wrangler fashion, keep introducing new models each year before they perfect one. FCA QC worries me. Lots of annoying problems and the dealerships have not been helpful in many cases and for that price they can keep them.

I saw on Autoblog that Toyota recently refreshened the Fortuner. Article is vague, but it does suspiciously say, "...... 7-seater will hit showrooms later this summer In markets such as Australia, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, among others.". Amoung others includes Peru and other South American countries, whatever. BUT, Considering that the Venza is back (overseas Harrier, no currently relationship to the Lexus RX) and rebranded, MAYBE Toyota will do the same. There was mention of a turbo diesel 4 (typical overseas offering). Of course, they will NEVER offer a diesel here, but keep in the mind the last gen of the Fortuner did have the 4.0 V6 (1GRFE) as an option.

I could be wrong, I've been saying it would be a smart business decision for them, then again, it is smaller than the current 4R. Another possibility is a shared chassis that is currently has with the Prado (Lexus GX), but that sucker is huge and although i would LOVE to see a rebadged Prado as a 4R, I doubt that will happen.

Too bad the Fortuner isn't offered here.

My understating is that Fortuner is unibody and the 4R already shares a chassis with the Prado.

Nope.

Fortuner is an SUV version of the Hilux.

Ladder frame.

Prado and 4Runner are closely related but the Prado has been redesigned in international markets while we get the old GX, still.

I highly doubt they wont go Body on Frame. It makes no sense to have yet ANOTHER crossover in their lineup, when the 4Runner sells so well for what it is. Hybrid is definitely a possibility but not body on frame I would say is not something they're planning on doing. Just my two cents.

Hybrid would have to be an option, because most people don't want one.

I wouldn't want my dedicated off road and DD vehicle to be a hybrid.

Shit, no one drives hybrids here anymore after the HOV lane exemption went away and Toyota dumped 2 of its 3 Prius models (Prime doesn't count). If you want to virtue signal, you go full electric or fuel cell like the Mirai.

No one will ever figure out what Toyota will do for a 6th Gen 4R. We’ll see it when it hits the showroom.

I just hope they're listening and plan on making at least one BOF 4x4 wagon body for less than 50k for those of us who routinely abuse our vehicles and still need that over-engineered third world quality.

Could be like the Lexus IS "redesign" where Toyota basically did some very minor body work and make the interior rectangular air vents into round ones. I'm not sure I'd even count it as a full refresh.
