I'm hoping the next gen comes out soon! Not really liking the news about the turbo 4 or that it might not be made in Japan. We'll see though.

That information is dated and some thing similar by someone with a similar name posted it on another forum as well.
Having worked in the Business, Product and Strategy Office at Ford I can tell you for certain that development and production dates, this far out, change frequently. With the new content in the ‘22, like I said, 2025+ would be my guess. If you are selling 150k vehicles on tooling that is 12+ years old and its not affecting your CAFE or Safety and your competitions (if Jeep or Ford Bronco are even considered competitors) vehicles continue have serious quality problems why would you want to change? There’s risk involved in a new vehicle. If its as fugly as the Prado or the Lexus things or if the other features are not well received you might flop and loose sales aka “fix it until it’s broken” comes to mind.

You're the only person I've heard say the Prado is ugly. The GX version of it, sure, agreed.

Are they still selling 150k of these a year?

The Prado/LX/GX are actually Jocelyn Wildenstein-Sandra Bernhard ugly but that was too long to spell this morning.

The Prado, to me, is just the older 470GX with a larger grill. I like it. I would consider buying it if it was in the US depending on how smooth the ride is and which engine it had. Shrug.
Absolutely agree with you on the current LX/GX.

Perfect! There is a shortage of 4Runners as it is, so if they push a few potential customers to that Ford hype machine, that means I'll have more selection when I get my '22 T4R, lol.

I for one am skeptical of the next gen. I like the T4R as is, and most changes to vehicles these days are more about fuel economy and CAFE than anything else. That means expect a turbo with questionable longevity and a 45 speed automatic that shifts like a machine gun.

I want to grab the current gen while I still can. If the next one turns out to actually be a big improvement where it matters, there is always the option to trade in later.

I really hope they don't blow it, since over the years every other SUV has become just a blocky minivan.

At the present time, I don't believe the Bronco is an actual threat to the 4runner. They cannot do anything right over there.

We have a '16 Limited 4runner, and I had a July 14th 2020 reservation on a Bronco. I cancelled in March - when it became overwhelmingly evident that the launch was going to be a cluster. Today, all of the crows came home to roost for Ford.

I would LOVE a turbo V6 in the 4runner. I guess Magnuson is still my answer.

“Today, all of the crows came home to roost for Ford.”
Could you explain what you meant by this? Thanks.

Why thank you, I do appreciate that. I just get so frustrated with curious owners being in the dark, so if I can help, I try. Better something not directly come from the horses mouth and hurt their current sales, versus surfacing in a more muted setting like a forum instead.

Thank you so much for chiming in.

No way the 4 runner is coming out next year. There is no leaks or real information anywhere. When the bronco came out there was information and speculation about since 2015.

Agreed with recent posts, ‘23 seems more and more unlikely especially with the supply chain issues to boot! Here’s to hoping they are taking their time to get it right.

Not only that, major shortages regarding tooling for manufacturing. Toyota would need to already have their production lines in place to release in the next 12–18 months. Outside services for the auto industry are also trending way behind on their anticipated lead times. This will all take time to clear. My guess is 2024 we see redesign.
