Can i drive for a few days with 4 out of 6 wheel studs?

I got a flat tire on the rear, and when I replaced it, I busted two of the wheel studs. Required a breaker bar to get the studs off, so clearly put on with a impact wrench!

Unfortunately broke the two studs out of six right next to each other.

I'm in the mountains, and it's a long ways to town. Any suggestions on driving like this for a few days? Check them every X miles or hours?

Or is this a drop everything and get it fixed?

Hoping to not come off the mountain quite yet!

I've certainly done it. For weeks.... Not on my 4Runner but on several older toyota trucks I have had. My father had a 98 Tacoma with a broken stud on the front for about 5 years. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

I've heard of it being done before, but my OCD would 100% prevent me from doing it myself!

Most cars/SUV's only have 5 studs, some even have 4. So its not like the rim is going to fly off, but i would be cautious at higher speeds. Besides the slight imbalance if the remaining 4 are solid you should be fine for now. I would be weary of though terrain as well.

Any licensed technician would say "no" with good reason. The vehicle was built to run with 6 so 4 makes it unsafe. Has it been done...yes. I would be getting 6 on there as quick as possible.

You could take one off another wheel and have two with 5/6 instead of one with 4/6. Had to do this trick to get home a long time ago when someone must have loosened all the lug nuts on one wheel in a parking lot and my wheel came off on the highway.

other people posts for advice and doesn't care to at least provide additional info how he ended up doing.

He logged in last December so he must have made it.

Yes you can borrow a lug nut off another wheel and have 5 & 5 if you were missing lug nuts, but his problem was that he snapped off 2 wheel studs. Kind of hard to replace those when you're on the road.
