Heck Toyota, wait until 2024 for a new 4runner if it means you'll get it right. (Edit- the way it's selling a delay is almost a no brainer to Toyota).

This is what I'd want, put the Wrangler on notice, and blast the new Bronco out of the water-

Ability to put good sized tires on without a lift.
Maximized ground clearance and approach/ departure angles.
Lever shift mostly mechanical 4x4 engagement, e-locker.
All the latest safety sense stuff.
Surprisingly good gas mileage, lots of wind tunnel testing and engine tuning.
3rd row seats standard but easy to remove.
Better rear visibility.
Maximize interior space. Better ergonomics, comfy seats, great stereo.
Less plastic outside, don't go with the high shouldered, swoopy C-pillar look.
Good low end torque for easy feeling acceleration.
Wishful thinking- removable rear roof section, and optional 7 speed stick with crawl gear.

Or they could get it entirely wrong and do nothing, but they'll give us the new Lamp-Shade edition.

Makes sense for the third row to be optional. I want one in my next buy, but not everyone needs it. Then you’re just lying for what you don’t need.

Piggybacking on your “mostly mechanical” point, ditch the infotainment screen and go back to the knobs I can work in winter gloves. Reduce electronics and increase reliability

I won’t hold my breath (though I did hold out hope recently that they might take such steps to reduce required computer chips due to the shortage. Was planning on buying if they did that)
