Tell me why not- 2022 Limited

Drove a SR5 premium tonight and not sold on it. Seems to be missing some key features for the price like ventilated seats, touch unlock, remote start and climate control. Only thing about the limited I’m not sold on is the wheels and chrome door handles , grill etc… I guess that’s not much to overcome.

This probably should be in the 5th gen area to get a wider audience but I'll answer anyway.

The SR5 Premium and Limited are about $6,000 apart. While I'm not crazy about the X-REAS being there, I could live with it. The leather seat was also annoying (plan to get a little dirty) but I could cover them.

The wheels were a different story. I will not have a 20 inch rim on a 4Runner. That destroys most of the off-road ability the stock vehicle has. The cost to buy 5 17" rims and 5 AT tires, on top of the 6k, was just too much...and while I'd love to have ventilated seats and dual climate control, I'm not forking over 9 grand for them.

HUGE fan of Limited….for ONE reason….FULL-TIME 4WD with low range. My bet is that this will be the last year 4runners will come with that. Look at the new Sequoia…none of the trim levels come with it. Tundra…nada. Toyota seems to be moving away from it for Toyota SUVs. Maybe saving it for Lexus SUVs?

I am going to get one before 5th gen become dinosaurs. My wife is in need of a new car within next year…so that will be #1 on our list.

Interesting. Heard someone else say the same thing about the switch to Lexus SUV and 4wd with low range.

If I were to do it again, i would either buy a GX or a Limited. Living in CO, I would prefer AWD over part time 4wd.

If I were to buy a limited I would remove all the ground effects and front/rear end plastic to make it look like a Pro - of course, that's an additional several thousand to add to the price.

I really thought seriously about the GX460. The V8/6AT combo was very tempting. However, the Lexus dealer in KC refused to entertain any offer below MRSP+ and dealer added stupidity like nitrogen filled tires, protective paint coatings, etc.

My problems with the GX were the premium fuel as a small issue, the front grill being a$$ ugly as a moderate issue, the remote touchpad next to the gear shifter as a major issue and the mandatory 3rd row as a deal breaker. The cargo area of the GX is modest even with all seats folded. The swinging rear barn door was dumb but I would have adapted.

Out the door it was $14k more than the TRD ORP I ordered. I would much rather have a 2 row 4Runner Limited than a GX460.

Curious, what do you drive now? Thinking about the GX over the 23' 4Runner myself and currently have a 19 4Runner.

The benefits of GX: full-time 4wd, available CRAWL, great for tall people (more headroom), great for those living at altitude due to more power and better gearing, those who tow (again power & gearing advantage), and of course luxury.

The problem with LIMITED 4runner is that you have full-time 4wd but no way to get CRAWL. And powertrain is pretty anemic.

No real argument about the benefits you list for the GX.

In the days when you could actually negotiate price with dealerships, I may have been able to reach a compromise that would have landed me into a GX Premium despite the 3rd row seating.

$66,500 out the door (which is what the KC dealer currently demands) is just not going to fly.

No low range 2023 Limiteds?

I just joined the forum to post this, and I realize it should be in the 5th gen section, but it is relevant to Limited specifications, 2022 and 2023, and as a newbie I cannot start a thread.

I just ordered a 2023 Limited, and this doc:

indicates that the Limited and certain other models no longer have a low range. It says for low range: "(4x4 SR5, TRD Off-Road only)"

The above doc may be found on:

under "PRODUCT SPECS, download pdf".

Of course this may be an error, but it is a very specific error of commission not omission, and the list of specs on my order does not list a low range.

I knew this before ordering: my wife and I are in our mid-80's and have no business rock crawling. Nevertheless it is disappointing, for sure.

I was burned by this sort of thing before when I got my 2010 SR5 and discovered that the 2010 part-time 4WD system no longer included a Torsen central differential.
