Just throwing it out there, but doesn't a naturally aspirated engine lose a non-trivial amount of power (something like 2 to 3 percent) for each 1000 feet above sea level?
This would suggest a NA vehicle being driven in the Denver area would probably be down on power by at least 10 to 15%. That could easily explain a loss of 5 to 10 percent gas mileage.
