Sheesh I dunno. I really want to love this because I'm rooting for Toyota. But mostly I'm relieved that I'm not tempted to get one—it's solid but I'm not blown away and it's not a clear cut upgrade.

Longer and wider isn't a great move imo. Current 4runner size is already borderline—I can just barely get away without an oversize charge in city garages. And I don't have much room to spare on either side when I pull into my 2-door garage at home. I do think overall the stance is much improved. 5th gens on stock wheels and tires do look top heavy and bloated. The official reveal video has some good clips showing the Pro driving. Looks stout!



My issue is less with the new 4runner styling and more that Toyota has really watered down the truck lineup by making the Rav4 and Highlander look a lot more truck-ish. So now when I see the new 4runner front-end, the styling cues remind me of all the Toyota softroaders and not the unique and opinionated 5th gen.

Overall I'm sure the styling will grow on me but I won't be buying one when prices come down to reality in a couple years. TBH buying a low 20's mpg ICE engine in 2028 or so just isn't a smart move.

Probably getting a Rivian as my DD and continuing to build my 2015 TEP into an adventure rig.

Glad Toyota is making moves and investing a lot more in their truck lineup but the new 4runner isn't for me.

Yes, Tahara is a big deal.

Looks do not matter to me, if it does what I need, I will like the looks, too. But sloping windshields suck in AZ. I greatly appreciate my 4R lack of slope so I am not dealing with the sun baking me through the windshield.

Seems like zero offroad improvement (and don't try to tell me otherwise because of the 33" tires).
Efficiency gains: small in the big scheme of things and perhaps partly offset by complexity. Incremental improvement: nice if I needed a 4R, but I already have one, properly modded, too!

Not bad.

Not exciting either.

Me? My son's dreams of getting my 5th gen and me getting a 6th gen did take a big hit LOL. He will now start pushing the Rivian R2 idea Which is probably more likely in 2-3 years than this 6th gen 4R (since we would still have a 4R available to beat up in the AZ desert and other places too tough for air suspension and too tight for a shiny new vehicle).

lol my wife saw it and said the front end reminded her of her RAV4. The Grand Highlander also has a hood and headlights that scream 5th gen refresh 4Runner to me.

Agree with other posters, was hoping it would be a little smaller than 5th gen not larger. So far would rather get a landcruiser depending on money

I'll reserve judgement for 8-10 years and a few high mileage and trouble Threads. Short of a diesel option, I'm doubting these will go the distance as trouble free as the 5th gen.

It's hard to believe the last reveal was 14 or 15 years ago. Kind of appropriate they did it during the week of a solar eclipse, that seem to happen just about as often.

I will reserve final judgement until I can see it in person, but I like it.

I don't remember feeling the same way in 2009 when the 5th Gen leaked and it felt like Toyota took a step back. I remember all the grumbling about how Toyota ruined it and many had their opinion of how they would've done it better.

I really like my RAV4 Prime, but a Platinum Hybrid will be tempting in a few years.

Some of the pics look kool enough. But with the power train and whats being offered...i'd just stretch it and go buy a Land Cruiser...

i wont buy either for at least a yr or two...let any of the bugs get filtered out and fixed from either 1st-time model years...

Depending on my son's college needs...i plan on going to test drive one of the new LC's in 2025-2026...and pulling that trigger

one of these 4Runners...ill pass...i'd go look for a 2020-2024 TRD Pros as a plan B

I guess I'd like to know what is the lowest trim level that will have the hybrid and see where that price point is compared to the Landcruiser edition.

Do we know which trim level will get it and any word on when we get pricing?

I think the biggest takeaway is the much needed power upgrade. 465 torque is solid.

The looks will grow on people like they do with every other car. Look at how people hated the new M4's at first.

I myself after just purchasing a new TRD Off Road three months ago and I was fully aware of the new 2025 model coming, I'm still totally happy with my choice. At 79 I pretty much wanted the "Old School" model as this could be my last new vehicle purchase, but who knows. I want to stay away from Turbo's in general and the Hybrid models are not of real interest to me. Fuel mileage is in my income range and I don't see it as being a problem, plus I drive less then 8,000 miles per year, if that. It's going to be curious on what the new models sell for, not that price is a factory for me, but for many it could be, I'm thinking $2000/$2500 increase across the new lineup. It will be curious to see how the 4 Runner world takes to the new model, as the "Old School" models have such a following, I guess time will tell. Plus, now we are getting a new Land Cruiser, and I can't help but feel that it is going to cut into 4 Runner sales somewhat.

One of the reveals stated the TRD off road will offer both powertrains. We'll see how that slots in price wise.
