I just got a e-mail form Toyota. If you think the Corolla is way too large read this:

Yup.....we've had Echo Hatchbacks (5 or 3 door) up here since 2003. Now they're coming to the US as well, but the name has changed to Yaris.

Apparently "Yaris" is a more appealing name to the American market than "Echo," that's the reason for the switch......I would have stuck with Echo, but whatever works eh

We have Echos here as well. Kind of looks like a car that got squeezed together, with a high roof line. Echos have not sold well here in the States.

Your right, I think the Echo has a little trunk, not a hatchback. Boy that 4 door Echo hatchback is one strange ass looking vehicle.

Well, i think that the hatchback looks better than the sedan sold in the USA....but, then, that's not saying much!
