Toyota FT-1 concept

Just released from the Detroit motor show. Perhaps a reincarnation of the supra?

I saw the live stream this morning and I was absolutely blown away. Not only does it look great, hold the same body lines as the MKIV, and has an amazing HUD, the word is this car has already proven to outperform the LFA. I can't wait to see this hopefully go into production. Whether it deserves the Supra badge is still on the table though. I've said for years that if it isn't a turbocharged inline six with three pedals, it is not a Supra.

That looks hot.

Can they make modern MPG/emissions requirements and still make enough HP with a straight six though?

^^ One can only expect, right? I mean I would imagine Toyota's motivation to "bring back the Supra" would be to compete with Nissan's already proven GTR. There's a car that makes over 500hp stock through an AWD drivetrain and still meets US emissions requirements. I've got my fingers crossed for a 3.4L. Things will get interesting.

Toyota had turned themselve into an old mans car company by palying it safe.
They used to have the Celica, MR2 & Supra.
Hopefully, Scion injected some young blood back into the brand with the FRS and they won't be afraid to make this new Supra.

Besides, with Acura coming out with the new NSX and Nissan still having the GTR, there's gotta be some pressure on Toyota to have a real sports car again.
(the Lexus LFA not withstanding)

Did they finally release what engine they are going to use? In the teasers Toyota put out they would not say what it would be running. Just curious to know. It has a pretty big hill to climb to compete with the GTR.

There's always the Lexus LFA engine to model after.

There was another thread in the off topic section and the OP said they were using a BMW V8. But I just don't see Toyota using anything but their engines.

I'm sure they'll put a pedal parking brake if people really wanted it. If the car is outperforming the LFA it wont have fully manual transmission (foot clutch, shifter).

I agree. I will probably have paddle shifters at the least.
