Gas mileage is horrible, I've lost 3 mpg, down to 12 mpg. I've actually decided to sell my 100 and try to find another 80 series. The MPG is not the reason, just wanting another 80. I put the 100 on Craigslist and have already sold the wheels and tires. If I wasn't driving it every day I wouldn't care. I'm going to find me another 4 runner to drive every day and get an 80 for a trail machine.

Picked up a nice 98, 4x4, T4R last weekend for my daily driver. It had been in the same family for the last 12 years and runs like a new one. Tires were a little worn out so put a set of 265/75/15 Cooper HT's on. Taking it in Monday to have the driver's seat redone but other than that, it's in great condition. For some reason the 3rd Gen 4Runners are my favorite of all 4Runners. I'm still looking for an FJ80 Land Cruiser or may even get another 100 as long as it's a 98 or 99 with rear locker. This one had set under pine trees in Georgia for the last 6 months so it was pretty nasty with pine sap all over it. I cleaned it up and waxed it, good as new again.

That is a super nice 3rd Gen! I'm in the market for an 80/100 series as well right now - good luck with the search!

Put a TRD decal on the back Getting ready to plasti dip the bumpers and emblems tonight. Also looking for a cargo basket. The driver's seat was a mess and had it recovered this week, looks great.

There's no problem locking the front diff on a 100 series. I know several guys that have both front and rear lockers on their 100. It's actually a lot better, especially if you go with the ARB because it ads extra strength to the front diff and you're not having to nail it to get out of a bad situation. The 98 and 99 100 has 4 spider gears in the carrier and starting in 2000, they have 6 spiders, so there's much more surface area of gear teeth in contact with each other and less likely to be a problem. In other words, if you have a 98 or 99, I would get an ARB front locker if I was going to do a lot of serious off-roading. I've about gave up on finding a decent FJ80 and I'm starting to look for a 100 again. I'm hoping to find a 98 or 99 and put an air locker in the front. Getting the 98 or 99 with the rear factory locker will save me $1200 putting in an ARB in the rear.

Just s few emblems to go but the bumpers and grill are covered

Yes my house is 2 colors. I needed a break today, tired of painting stucco

This was my first time using plasti dip and I messed up on the rear bumper. Oh well, I'll pull it off and do it again. Front bumper and grill went on perfect

Thanks for the info! I have been looking for a 80 as well but there are a lot of 100's locally so it's hard not to look. Having two IFS Toyota's already I will most likely go with an 80 but if I come across a deal on a 100 I might think twice..

I'm running into the same thing, a lot more 100's than 80's. I found a 99 with the rear locker locally and the guy said he would take $7500. It had 190,000 miles but still a pretty good deal. I could spend another $5000 and have a really nice rig. Obviously finding a locked 80 would be best but seems like the ones I find have 300,000 miles and need work or in great condition with 200,000 or less miles and they're $12,000 or more. The last 80 I bought in 2006 was a 1997, lockers, with cloth interior and only had 100,000 miles. I gave less than $12,000 for it. That same cruiser today would bring $15,000 or more.......with those miles. I found a 1994 80 today and the guy wants to trade even for my 4Runner but I just don't want to get rid of it. Plus it doesn't have lockers so there's another $3000 I would have to spend. I keep telling my self if I slow down and wait, I will find what I'm looking for. I've never been real good about waiting.

I am starting to wonder if the later model 80 series with lockers are going to be some sort of classic in the future. It seems like the price keeps creeping higher and higher. The one thing I don't like about the 100 is the torsion beam front end. That along with needing a locker up front has me telling myself to just spend more on the 80 even if it is older. Yet every morning on my way to work I see a really nice 100 with a small lift and front and rear arb bumpers. If it wasn't for that rig I would of probably never even looked towards the 100. Either way I think the 80 might have better resale in the long run as well. I just gotta keep looking even if it takes a year or two.

I guess if you prefer how the 80 looks I'd say go for it.. But the 100 holds it's value just as well, if not better. I know the 80 has some hard core followers as I use to be one, but the 100 is as much truck as the 80 is.. I know it's not a solid front axle, but the 100 can hold it's own with the IFS. Unless you plan on some rock crawling action, the 100 is a better truck overall.. Just my opinion anyways.. Good luck on whatever you choose cause either way you can't go wrong..

Thanks, I just have always had the bug for an 80 series. If my wife knew the difference between the two comfort wise I would only be allowed to buy a 100. lol
On another note I really wish the LC105 came to the states that way I could have the best of both worlds.

Found a deal on a Yakima roof rack on craigslist for the 4Runner.

I've had several 80's and after owning a 100, it's made me want another 100. I had a 99 with the rear e-locker bought and the seller found another buyer that was willing to pay more so he sold it today. When we made the deal I told him I would drive 175 miles the next day but he said he had something to do. I called him today and asked if tomorrow worked and he informed me he sold it. Needless to say I was more than disappointed. I found another 99 with the locker today so I'm hoping we can get together on price. It's got 159,000 miles so maybe I'm better off that the other one sold. It had 198,000 but it was the color I wanted. Taco04, it would be nice if we could get the 105 with the straight axle, a turbo diesel would also be sweet.

It took a while but finally bought an 80. It's a 1993 with factory lockers, needs some work but I got a heck of a deal on it. I'm keeping the 4Runner for my DD and work on the Cruiser when I have the time. Right now I just want to get it in good running condition. Engine and tranny are great but I have to service the front birfs, passenger side is leaking but might as well do both of them. It has 170,000 miles and I doubt they've ever been done. I'm going to tune it up and flush and change all the fluids. Long term plans are an OME lift ( 2.5" ) 295/75/16 tires, front ARB winch bumper, Slee rear bar with spare carrier, Slee sliders, ARB roof rack, CB radio, lights........a lot of money in mods but I'm in no hurry. Will probably take me a couple years.
