You wanna come help me bleed the clutch again? Haha. It's going to be completely unrecognizable, especially after decent brakes and a set of wheels. A splash of carbon, too.

Thanks mrsingh, there's going to be full documentation of the entire paint process, so you can even see it as it goes on. There will also be a build video sooner or later.

It was the best riding/ handling car I have ever owned! Glad to see both of your soups are in good hands of someone who appreciates them! Keep up the good work! Ps, can't believe you scored the mk4 for so cheap[emoji4]

Thank you smokeshow! The MK3's are great cars, just got some polyurethane bushings for the 89's control arms. The stock bushings were toast! Hoping it handles half as good as the MK4! The MK3's are hard to find in clean shape, would you ever consider getting back into the game? Why did you sell?

I still can't fathom the purchase price myself. The R154 and related transmission swap parts have so far already surpassed the purchase price 2 times over. After all is said and done, the car will have roughly 20-25k into it total.

Lets take a moment to discuss some drivetrain updates:

R154 shifter extension has been completed. This was a brand new shifter housing extended 4.75" to match the MKIV's shifter location.

Tail housing off.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4512/...9c9f2dc5_b.jpg

Installed, tail housing resealed with Permatex Ultra Black RTV.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4489/...82699c50_b.jpg

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4450/...4c3ce09f_b.jpg

Then I was intending to swap out the 7M bell housing on the transmission to a 1JZ bell, as that's what is required to fit an R154 to the 2JZ. I start by comparing the new bell against the old, and was shocked to find they were the same. They both even had a purple paint splotch, which is indicative of a 1JZ bell. Mind you, the transmission was advertised as having a 7M bell.

I double checked my spare R154, which for sure has a 7M bell, and wouldn't you know, it was different. A 7M bell is worth maybe $50, and a 1JZ bell is worth $350. That sure put my mind at ease!

OS Giken Touring twin plate clutch :) For those of you who aren't familiar with these, they're one full unit, flywheel and all. The flywheel thickness is reduced, meaning you'll have to run shorter-than-stock flywheel bolts.

The right quarter, as mentioned before, needed minimal work compared to the left quarter. Neither are done, so here's more on those.

Starting this update with the right side, the rivet holes being welded.

Wouldn't have guessed one of my favorite threads on a 4runner forum would be of a Supra. Just went through the whole thing, glad this ended up in good hands and solid work!

LiquidFlame 11-12-2017 05:09 AM

Any idea of when she'll be cruisin the streets again?

poleclimber63 11-12-2017 11:37 PM

Awesome!

I love what you've done and its great to see this Supra coming back! Thinking about Supra's...
I was at the gas station earlier this Fall when a guy pulled up on the other side of the gas bar. He was driving a fully restored "wine" coloured TR6 --- but that wasn't what grabbed my attention.... As I didn't initially see him pull up, I was thinking Japanese Sports car, by the rumble of the engine sound... I was really surprised to see a TR6! I had to ask him about this! It seems he found the TR6 in a farmers' field. He purchased a Supra front clip. He spent 6 mo. cutting/welding and modifying the TR6 to take the 2JZ-GE. The car became a Triumota---- a highly modified Triumph body and frame, and Toyota drive-train and suspension. He told me its REALLY fun to drive and he claims he plans on being buried in it, in 30-35 years!!

Chuckles89 11-15-2017 04:49 PM

Wow that's a crazy amount of body work! She's gonna be a beaut!
