3/4 ton opinions

Looking for an older beater 3/4 ton for home improvement store runs and mulch, etc. I've narrowed it down to late 80s to mid 90s Chevy 2500 or F-250. I've read that chevy 350 motors are a breeze to work on, but Ford is tougher (whatever that means). Ford will come in either the 351W or the bigger 460. Debating whether 4WD is needed or not as there are plenty of 2wd on the market.

I want ease of maintenance and reliability, no frills. Found a couple under 3k and that's the limit.

You can't have everything, so if you want "ease of maintenance" then the 2WD is far and above easier and cheaper to maintain than the 4WD, in every moment, from the purchase to the taxes to the gas mileage to the repair costs.

Same with reliability where the 2WD has far fewer parts that spin all the time.

In addition, it's a huge boon that there is so much empty space in the engine bay and underneath which makes it a pleasure to work on.

I forgot to update this. I got the 2wd heavy duty. So far I redid the rotors and brake pads and bearings in the front. Tuneup with fluids coming soon. So far it's been great though
