What do I want to know...

I want to know if an 80 series LC is right for me, and to see some build threads to get an idea for how much work generally has to go into one that is in fair condition.

I would also want to get a general feel and consensus about how people feel about the newer models.

And to keep an eye on the market place to get a feel for pricing.

PS... Nice LX

Do you like something that has no horsepower and gets single digit gas mileage? The FJ80 is completely gutless. The FZJ is somewhat gutless.

If it's in fair condition, you will spend 2-3 times the cost of one in good to excellent condition to get it running, and it'll still look like shit when you're done.

They are heavy pigs that go offroad like a mountain goat.

Despite the IFS, the 100 series is great off road, and has a V8 that sucks less than the inline 6 at just about everything.

The 200 series has all the cool stuff like KDSS and terrain control that some of the 5th gen 4runners have, has an even bigger V8 that sucks considerably less, and can be made into a formidable off roader if you have money coming out of your ass.

NONE of them can be made operational on a budget, but a good 100 series will ironically be cheaper than a good 80 series in most places. If you want to get a good 80 series, look around the Bay Area. California's fascist smog laws are making it hard to certify them and good examples are always on sale.

I love both of my triple locked fzj's. I love the old solid axle Yota's. I keep this one to beat on at my cabin in the mountains.

If you are willing to buy a $80k LC, you can afford LX no problem

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. I would love one, but I had to settle for something family friendly. I have a friend with one that is geared up and triple locked that he only takes out for recreation.

As much as I love 80's, it seems more effective to just put a solid front axle on a 3rd gen Runner that has an E-locked rear. More power and WAY cheaper to maintain, not to mention cheaper buy-in. Size is more trail friendly too.
