1980 something Kids bike Restoration

I guess this counts as a vehicle. If a mod wants to move it to off topic or somewhere else that's fine.

So my daughter is 4 and she learned how to ride a bike and outgrew the tiny 10" wheel bike she was using. At her grandparents was her moms old bike from when she was a little girl and it had been sitting for close to 30 years. My daughter liked the idea of fixing it up for her so here we go. I forgot to take a before pic, but this is pretty close.

I had to cut the chain off with a grinder, then figure out how to work on a one piece crank (super easy btw).

Then even in the desert rust showed it's ugly head. I think this is the worst of it, and a friend said after I clean out the seat tube from rust he can put a patch on it. I doubt it even really needs to be fixed, it won't see that much stress, but I'm leaning toward powder coat and I don't want an ugly hole there.

The seat post was really stuck. I had to heat up the seat tube to get it out and it was still really stuck in there. It got pretty mangled in the process. I thought finding a nother seatpost wouldn't be a problem, but it has an outer diameter of 22mm, while most I can find are 22.2mm or 25.4mm. I can however find 22mm carbon fiber tubing online, so maybe my daughter can rock a little carbon on her bike.

Thats as far as I got so far. Now it's all going to be cleaning, coating and ordering new parts.

I do admire this idea. You realize the project is going to cost 6x the price of a new kids bike though, right? I'm guessing yes you do, and you're doing it anyway for the sentiment. Just wanted to make sure. I would recommend buying a parts bike on Craigslist instead of new components at least. I wish you luck!
