03' sequoia new steering rack problem?

I have an 03’ sequoia and mechanic just replaced the rack and pinion system. There is a bushing and clamp that holds the rack in on the passenger side, the new rack is moving inside of that about a 1/4-1/12” causing a creaking sound when turning the steering wheel from the 10-2 position. Is it normal for the rack to move and this just needs grease on the new bushing or is the bushing supposed to lock it completely into place?

The rack needs to be solidly mounted and should not move. It is definitely not a good thing if you are seeing this type of play. The steering rack bushings on basically all Sequoias and Tundras are well known for this problem.

Good news is that there's a company out there that makes new bushings for these out of polyurethane, which is a material that's far stiffer than rubber. These bushings are meant to prevent the rack from being able to move side to side like that.

thank you, my mechanic replaced the bushing and it's 99.5% better, there is a faint sound after sitting and when I turn it side to side before moving. Mechanic said it's normal to move some. If that's not true, can you show me a pic of the exact mounting bolt to try to tighten? Thanks
