2010 Carolla- new alternator; now PCM?
Not sure where else to go about this question, but since the people here are so knowledgeable about the T4R, hoping some of that will translate.
Yesterday after leaving work several lights in the dash came on (Brake, ABS, Power Stearing- stearing wheel with exclamation point, and airbag light) AND the RPM and speedometer gauges were in responsive. Lastly, the clock and radio presets were working but The mpg/temp/time/etc in the dash didn’t work.
I was able to drive home (25 miles) without issues and made it to auto zone. With their help they diagnosed it as a failed/failing alternator. Took it to my local mechanic (who I trust and has always done right as far as I know) who concludes with their diagnosis and replaced the alternator.
However, upon pickup today the lights were still on and it’s as if nothing changed. I brought this up and they took another look. Now they’re saying it’s not throwing any codes and expect it’s the PCM. Quoted a couple hundred if they can find a preprogrammed PCM, otherwise I’ll have to go to the dealer.
Anyway, wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar. My concern is that now we’re just going to start fixing one piece at a time and pouring more money into what was otherwise a dependable vehicle. Also, is it possible the alternator wasn’t bad in the first place?
Never dealt with a pcm issue before so any thoughts are welcomed
