Congrats to Toyota! It's amazing that a company that started out small can take over the #1 ranking.

I think Toyota should start focusing on quality again and not worry about selling more vehicles than GM. It's obvious that quality has slipped in recent years for Toyota.

Oh no...don't say that! Koz will get offended and go on and on about his fanboy love affair with Toyota propaganda!

Well, I'm only calling it the way I see it. Lucky for us 4Runner owners, we still own one of the most rock-solid reliable Toyotas out there. Unfortunately, not ALL Toyota owners can say the same.
It's pretty much a recognized fact that Toyota has had some quality problems recently. An article I read recently had an interview with one of the Toyota bigwigs (don't remember his name), and even he admitted that quality slipped in the last two years.

It surely is nice to see Toyota on top of everybody, but lets hope they worry more about quality than quantity. I agree that our 4Runners are solid, but there is also the Avalon, Camry, Tundra, FJ Cruiser......

I'm not so sure you should have included the FJ Cruiser with the others. From what I've seen, the FJ Cruiser has very good quality/reliabiltiy. Consumer Reports even ranks the FJ ahead of the 4Runner. The only common issue I ever hear FJ guys complaining about is the easily cracked windshield.

Yup, that is why I added that to my list. It may not be a mechanical issue, but it still shows a change in quality. Wasn't there some sort of class action suit against Toyota from FJ owners or something like that?

I don't think that's really a quality issue. I think it's more of a design flaw, with such an upright windshield. Maybe Toyota should change to a thicker windshield glass that is more resistant to cracking and chipping.
Besides, FJ drivers who don't do much highway driving will probably never experience a cracked windshield. That's why I don't see the issue as a quality issue.

Don't forget about the body rip issue on the FJ that is apparently not an issue on the 4runner for some reason. See: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=30130

I think quality has also suffered and I've had a few shop visits , but noting major , major.
I'm sure I'll get bashed for this , but the thing that swayed me to but the 4R was because of it was made in Japan and I just felt in my gut it was a better quality , better built vehicle. The next Gen. is supposed to be made in the US . I hope quality does not get worse . I think american workers ( some not all ) in that field may be coming from an auto maker that does not have value's and pride in what they do like the workers do in Japan.
Bash away ......

Some of you guys are like sheep! Do you honestly think that in one year and a couple rag mags' bias opinions, based on a very small percentage of problems, has caused Toyota to fall to ridiculously low rankings? Toyota is still the best and most reliable car maker in the world! The Camry, Rav, Tundra and other Toyota/Lexus vehicles have just been picked as vehicles of the year, by other rag mags. PLEASE!
