Jsmarine's 2005 Tacoma DCSB 4x4

Jsmarine’s 2005 Toyota Tacoma, Crew Cab Short Bed

Well, as most of you probably know I recently sold my 4runner, (Jsmarine's 4runner build thread (lots of pics)) and bought this Tacoma from a fellow expeditionportal.com member. It was formally owned by ARB and I’m told Slee Off-road owned it as well. It is already nicely built with only 68,000 miles and should suit me perfectly, but I’m sure I will be adding more to it as time goes on. Below are the details.

Owner: Jsmarine
Location: Dallas, TX
Year: 2005
Make: Toyota
Model: Tacoma SR5, Crew Cab Short Bed 4x4

Engine: 4.0L V6 engine
Trans: Auto
T-Case: Stock
Front axle: Stock Gears/ARB Air Locker
Rear axle: Stock Gears /ARB Air Locker

Suspension:
Front- Old Man Emu 886 coil springs
Rear- Complete OME springs

Wheels & Tires:
Tires- 265/75/16 BFG All Terrains
Rims- 16x7.5 Stock

Armor:
ARB Front Bumper
Slee Off-road Sliders

Electrical:
Warn 9.5k XP winch
Cobra CB radio
IPF 900XSHD lights

Accessories:

That didn't take long. Nice taco! Those DCSB are my favorite body types!

First thing I noticed, that bumper is huge!! It could level a small city block.

What plans do you have so far?

The bumper isnt that big really, its just a standard ARB. Anyways, I just picked it up today, and the only thing it needs is tires, they only have about 5k left in them. I will probably go with either 255/85/16 or the stock size of 265/75/16, I haven't decided yet.

No plans yet...I might powder coat the bumper back to black, the white is starting to chip in places.

Well, its been a while, but I have made a few updates to the Taco.

I got some new shoes for the Tacoma, I decided to stay with the size it already had, 265/75/16 in BFG A/T's.

And I ordered new TRD wheel caps from TRDparts4u.com

No more hood prop! I bought some redline hood struts. I actually painted them white before installing, I think it gives it a more OEM look.

The front ARB bumper had some chipped places and some rust forming, so I decided to have it re-powder coated.

The powder coating came back great! Looks flawless, they really did a nice job with it!

Heres a few before and after pictures.

After I got the bumper back from the powder coating company, I realized my turn signal lights were corroded inside, so I picked up some LED lights from Northern Tool and Equipment.

I built a tent rack to hold my roof top tent. The rack sits on top of the bed rails and bolts to the existing rails along the inside of the bed. The rack is supported from the bed rails, not the hardware, the bolts just keep the rack in place. I was also able to utilize the existing hardware from my bed cover which makes changing from the cover to the tent rack very easy.

I also mounted my shovel and hi lift jack on the sides of the rack, I used hockey pucks as insulators from vibration for the hi lift jack.

I decided to paint the back of my IPF lights white, to match the truck. The paint was starting to fade and chip in places anyways. I didn’t take any before pictures actually, but the lights were a gray color. The process was pretty easy, disassembled the lights and painted them with Rustoleum Semi Gloss white. I really like how they turned out.

I also got my new ARB high output compressor installed that I bought from brand new off a guy on tacomaworld.com. He bought it new a while back, and never opened the box and wanted to free up some cash, so I got it for a few bucks less than retail price.

I had the smaller ARB compressor, but it was only for the lockers, and I wanted to be able to fill up my tires as well. It is so hot here in Dallas, and I was just trying to get it installed as quickly as possible; that I forgot to take some installation pictures. But, it was pretty straight forward, just followed the instructions. Heres a few pictures of it installed. I mounted it in the same place as the old compressor, under the hood on the driver’s side behind the battery and fuse box.

Yeah I started it shortly after I bought the Tacoma, but I haven't been updating the thread very much until today.
