specific to 2003 4runner

Locate the OBD port under the dash and recessed a bit. There may be a cap on it. From left to right, the top row of pins is 16-9, the bottom row is 8-1. You may notice that some of the pin holes are not used. This is normal.

Place two wires or paperclips (something electrically conductive and thick enough to stay in place) into Pins 4 and 14. Pin 14 is on the top and third from the left. Pin 4 is on the bottom and 4th from the right. It may help to tape the wires to the dash to prevent them from being pulled out during the procedure.

Park the 4Runner on a level surface and ensure the shift level is in PARK, the ignition is OFF, and that the truck remains still for the entire procedure.

Hold the wires together to create an electrical short between the pins.

Turn the ignition to ON.

In less than 8 seconds separate and connect the wires 4 or more times ending with them connected.

Turn the ignition OFF.

Separate the wires.

Turn the ignition ON. Verify the VSC warning lights go off after about 15 seconds.

After the VSC lights go off, wait at least 2 seconds and turn the ignition OFF.

Connect the wires.

Turn the ignition ON.

The VSC warning lights should stay on for about 4 seconds then start quickly blinking. This verifies that the Zero Point Calibration was successful.

After verifying the VSC lights are blinking, wait at least 2 seconds and turn the ignition OFF.

Remove the wires from the OBD port.

Take the 4Runner for a test drive to ensure the VSC lights stay off.
