4Runner/ Surf Fuel Efficiency

Hi Guys, we recently purchased a '92 4Runner and have been VERY impressed with it! With the exception of the fuel efficiency.

We have measured it with the AC off, all the windows up, No Bulbar or Nudgebar, and we're only getting about 6km/s per litre on the highway ??!! (or 16.6 Litres used every 100Kms on the highway)

Is this normal?

Has anyone gotten better fuel effiency then this? If so, how?

Cheers

Hi Seandaman, cheers for the reply,
So 15Miles = 25.7Kms, a US gallon (I assume you mean the US gallon, the UK gallon is smaller) = 3.8 Litres

Thus 25.7kms = 3.8Litres
6.7Kms = 1Litre.

Hence your stating that 6.7 Kms/litre (or 14.9Litres per 100kms) is 'low'
Do you mean that 6.7 kms/litre is good fuel efficacy or bad fuel efficiency? Sorry, I'm confused.
Cheers

Ben

9L -13L/100km

I get anywhere from 9L to 13L/100km
So significantly less than yours. 9L for highway constant speed 90km/h driving. 13L for highway foot-flat-to-the-floor-cruise-control-120km/h driving.

I've got a steel bullbar, long range tank, rear wheel carrier, sidesteps and roof cage. No lift and 30 x 9.5 R15 BFG A/T Tyres

Mine's a 2.8 naturally aspirated Diesel with 397xxx kms on it.

I have heard that the V6's are notorious for chewing up fuel however 16.6L/100km does still sound pretty bad.

Good luck with yours

Brisbane Run

Hi

I have a stock standard 64 litre tank, filling only on premium fuel

on a Recent hospital run from Longreach to Brisbane I was getting about 470 before i filled up, not daring to test the full length of the tank.

If that helps

Kind Regards
Scott

My old 93 4runner with 3VZ was getting about 320km from a tank, no barwork, stock body with 33" tires. changed O2 sensor and it jumped to 400km a tank.

fuel econ and O2 sensor

Yeah Fuel economy/mpg has come a long long way in the last 20yrs back then gas was 1/3 of the price.

18 mpg seems to be standard in with a top of about 24mpg that's like 8km per/ litre

thanks for the changing the O2 sensor idea my mechanic is down that area atm fitting a manifold gasket on the extractors/headers which is a very good mod for that model

My old Gen2 3.0td with roo bar, roof rack (and things on the rack), 2" lift, 31" muddies and the back full of camping gear would get 500-520km from a tank. Light would come on at about 500km on the highway.

Oh, it was Auto.

My current gen3 with same engine and gearbox gets around 550km from a tank but doesnt have the rack or nuidge bar, but does have a 2" lift and 33" muddies.
