Hi 4runners2lovers
Just like you, we also reside in Sydney (Parramatta area) & recently purchased a 92 4Runner & subsequently have spent the last month or so tricking it out with accessories. Considering we both reside in the same city, both recently purchased cars of similar years, and are both looking for accessories, i think its fair to say that we are both in a very similar situations!
We've found the best place to source accessories and parts is eBay and Gumtree.
It also pays to know that Hilux parts of the same year as the 2nd Generation 4Runners/ Surfs (89-95 are second generation) will almost always fit! and there are a LOT more Hilux parts floating around then 4Runner parts!
So far we've purchased:
Alloy Nudge Bar - $1
Not Genuine Toyota
But obviously it had been especially made for the 4Runner/Surf (or Hilux) as the six drilled holes line up perfectly with the 6 holes underneath our 4Runner, and thus wouldn’t fit a Pajero or Parthfinder etc
Rear fold seats - $0
Genuine Toyota
Allows the 4Runner to go from a 5 seat to 7 seat)
We got it for nothing as the person just wanted to see it go to a good home
Steel Bull Bar (not winch compatible) - $25
Genuine Toyota.
Was sold as a Hilux Bulbar for early 90's Hilux's, but fits perfectly on our 4Runner
Steel Bull Bar (Winch Compatible) - $100
Genuine Toyota
We haven't received this yet. The person we bought it from travels to Sydney every second month or so, and thus will be bringing it down with him. Please note, this was also advertised as a Hilux Bulbar
Dash Mat - $35 from Supercheap.
Not Genuine Toyota
Dash mats are usually $55 @ SuperCheap, we out outs on special (again, for a Hilux of the same year. Supercheap don't stock dash mats for 4Runners). The markets near us are Parklea Markets and the same dash mats sell for $45)
4wd Rubber Mats - $35 for a set of 4 (front and back) from the Markets
Not Genuine Toyota
Supercheap and Repco both sell them for $45 a pair! (we shopped around before buying any of these parts!) The rubber mats i speak of are the ones that are about 2 inches deep.
2x second hand tyres (70-80% tread) - $35 each
Not Genuine Toyota (or the brand that came out with the new 4Runner).
Bar that releases the winch that holds the spare tyre in - $0
Genuine Toyota
The previous owner was just happy it was going to a good home
Trolly Jack - $5
Not Genuine Toyota
We bought this at a garage sale
Car Support Stands - $30 (To hold the car up while your working under it)
Not Genuine Toyota
Got them from Supercheap, 3000kg capacity
Cargo Barrier - $25
Not Genuine Toyota
Plz note, Toyota don't make genuine Cargo Barriers for the 4Runner which amazes me. Not for the Australian market anyway. You'll probably need to go for a company that makes cargo barriers for the 4Runner/surf such as Milford; or as an alternative, buy or make a home made Job. Personally, i'd stick to the Milford or similar brands as they are guaranteed to withstand a certain load capacities.
Rubber Mat for Wagon - $50
Not Genuine Toyota
Bought from SuperCheap. Although we have seen genuines ones come up now and again on eBay, they weren't for our '92 (they were for a 94 & 96) which i assume would fit, but i didnt want to take the risk & seeing they wanted a kings ransom for the genuine rubber mats on Ebay, we bought the one SuperCheap offered that 'fits most wagons'. SuperCheaps one is a 'one size fits all' and then you cut it to size. we didnt cut ours - instead we let it curl up the sides of the wagon
We have been going soft-roading on the weekends
Mainly on the central coast and camping at various camp sites if you'd care to join. We'd also like to look around and see what groups we could join that do similar things on weekends. The only handicap we have is that we also have two dogs and can only camp at pet-friendly camps
I hope this helps! and if so, please click the 'thanks' button as it would be most appreciated!
