missing splash guards-- cooler engine?

On my 91 3.0 4wd 4runner. the inner wheel well( front) splash guards are missing. With a fresh engine I am thinking that this added air flow will help cool the back of the engine bay. i am wondering if there is any truth to my theory.

Funny, I just had to throw one of mine away. I was worried about road salt and corrosion.

I put the air scoop on the hood and took mine out (air in...air out was my theory). Seems to work, now that it's getting colder, the first place the frost melts is right behind the fender/door.
