I just did the same thing, I had a pair of rebuilt calipers, had the thicker rotors turned and they bolted right up after slight clearance cuts to the guards. IMO they feel more responsive

I ripped my 86 apart trying to find the short thats causing my dash light and tail lights to be non-op. It’s not the fuse, the dimmer, the relay, corrosion on the bulbs or the trailer hook-up(I don’t have one but I read that was a cause so I look for it.)
I’m stumped and annoyed.

That sucks. Sounds more like an open than a short. Curious about your method of testing and whether or not you have a wiring diagram on hand. That system should be pretty straightforward for finding where the power or ground is vanishing.

I changed most of the interior-lighting to blue (to match my radio-color).

You would think. My not very savvy when it comes to electrical. From the time I first posted to now I found a proper FSM wiring diagram.
Yet I’m still battling this issue. I get power to the tail light relay, the headlight switch will send power to the fuse. , however once that happens it pops the fuse. I’ve tried isolating the issues by disconnecting everthing that comes off that fuse. Custer lights, taillights, light reminder (buzzer), cruise control switch, the damn clock and all other dash lights...it still pops the fuse the moment power is applied.... I’m pretty stuck...my last guess is something forward of the relay..or..maybe I’m getting to much power some how.

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

Over the weekend I pulled the trigger on a 1990 V6 5 Speed 4WD SR5! Very excited to start working on her but i don't have plates yet. So that is first up. Next i will start replacing some of the worn out parts and do a general tune-up.

Replaced window motor
Replaced the passenger window motor in the '87.
Up next: more troubleshooting on the rear window so I can swap the top.

Me too. Only recently acquired it. Put on new front fenders over the weekend and am working to sort out some surface rust.

What did I do? Ordered more parts for it. Today it was a CAI kit and windshield washer bottle from Fleabay.
So far I've also ordered, but not yet installed, a bunch of other parts.
- A set of stainless headers
- An aluminum 3 row radiator w/shroud and electric fan
- A LC Engineering EGR block off kit
- Moog HD stock height rear coils
- A 1" body lift
- A new throttle cable
- A bunch of parts from the dealer to get the rear tailgate glass to function properly.
The body lift is only going on if/when I decide to pull the trigger on a 3.4 swap. For now the new rear coils will give me all the lift I'll need for a daily driver.
This list is a little late, but here's the stuff I've already done, or had done, since I bought this high mile (242K) but basically stock 2nd gen a couple of weeks ago.
- Replaced the rotten tires with Hankook MT2's (30x9.5R15)
- Fixed the sunroof (replaced the switch)
- Changed the oil and filter
- Replaced the broken windshield
- Replaced the broken power antenna
- Added a pair of KC lights to the brush guard
- Replaced the factory stereo with a large display double DIN head unit
- Replaced the blown factory speakers
- Added a back up camera
I'm sure I'm probably forgetting a few things, but that's most of it for now.
