4wd Light

Here is the story

2 days ago I took a twelve hour drive in my 95 rrunner. During my trip I noticed my engine temp was slightly higher than normal but not overheating. I then put the heater on and kept on driving with the temp back around where it normally used to be. Next day I tried to turn the heater off and the fan speed switch wouldn't budge. I pulled apart my dash and when I got to the switch it turns out that the switch had melted. I also found the culprit which turnd out to be the wires for the light for the HVAC panel . The wire was touching and I think it overheated melting the switch.
I decided to drive to the dealership to get a new switc and on my way there I noticed that my 4wd light in the gaugh cluster was blinking on and off intermittently. Also My in dash monitor would blink on and off with the light. At first the light came on only when I hit a bump in the road. 10 mins. later it started coming on more frequently especially when I was braking. I stopped at a friend's home ( without the switch - which has to be ordered) and parked the truck. Some 4 hours later I decided to drive home and the light was going on and off constantly as soon as i started the engine and has been doing so since.
I also shifted into 4 hi and the light stays on while the 4wd engages. While the light is blinking on and of I cannot tell if the 4wd is engaging and disengaing but it seems not to.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

I would say you may have melted a few more wires and bare wire may be exposed causeing the false light to come on.
