Locked front diffs?

My friend and I were discussing 4x4s...He has owned several T4Rs in this model year group and swears that his front diff was a spool from the factory, not a selectable locker. For example, when his hubs were locked, so was the whole axle. I don't believe that any T4R was locked in the front at all. He swears that on dry pavement the front tires chirped in turns and even spun at the same speed when one was on ice. Could this be simply a stout limited slip? Were any 4Runners set up locked in the front stock??? Where can I find toyota specs that will prove or disprove?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have never heard of any OEM front locker setup.

Now, 4x4 front axles will act differently than rears. With steering capability and weight distribution, front axles generally grab better. A front l/s will grab pretty good too because of this, but again, front traction aids as an OEM option are pretty rare.

An example tho: my old '79 Bronco would get up and squall all four when I romped on it in 4-lo on dry pavement. It had open diffs front and rear. It all comes down to weight, traction and power distribution.

No 4runners had a front locker. The only Toyota with a front locker OEM options were the Landcruisers 93-97.
