how does this short block motor look?

I am thinking about buying this short block with 165K miles. Owner says it had a valve issue. Does anything on this look bad? Going to put in my 1991 w a blown head gasket, doing a valve job obviously...

I know it's hard to diagnose, but any input would be great!

Thanks in advance!

in order to give and advice on this engine you would have to get pictures of the cylinder walls piston heads valve assembly and just a bunch of up close pictures.

there is no way to tell if any issues are in that engine with a picture like that. get some better pictures and then post them here.

and just a heads up any motor that has valve issues may also have piston issues i cant remember if the v6 is interference or not but if it has valve issues it could mean the entire engine is worthless. warped heads broken piston head smashed valve. all kinds of issues.

i cant see any thing wrong with this! a pic of the out side of the motor just shows how clean the out side of the motor is! internal issues need internal pics!

I'd add another cylinder on each side to get more power out of it.

I see an engine on a stand...that's it. You are seeing the same thing as us. About the only thing I see is that it's intact.

Whatever he says, take with a grain of salt, he says valve issue and 165K, how
about worn rings, bad valves and 295K miles? who knows?

If it were my short block, I would get a machine shop to mic it out and see if its viable.

And, if you have a 3.0 with a bad head gasket, why would you buy someone else's 3.0 with a bad valves?

One way to get a idea of what's going on with the inside of a Engine is to "Perform a Leak Down Test" the test will tell you what condition the piston rings and valves are in.
