Would the stock headers have not cleared? What modifications did you have to make to the 2UZ Tundra headers?

I wanted to post an update to this thread since it has been awhile. The motor has not gone in yet, and I decided to do a SAS while everything was out. The SAS is nearly complete and we will be dropping the engine in soon hopefully. I went with SKY Offroad SAS kit with a spring under design to make sure this truck is not really lifted a lot. I don't want a huge jacked up vehicle. I also want to run 33's only, so the spring under will make them look good without looking to little.

No headers would clear the steering arm of the 4runner. Two of the header tubes have to be cut and rewelded in different locations to not contact the steering arm. This is only on the drivers side.

Adapter Plate Fitted

The adapter plate fit almost perfectly. There was one bolt hole that we will have to file a little bit. The program seems to be off just a hair on that bolt location. Also, Since I used the bellhousing bolts to install the adapter, I need to get another set of bellhousing bolts for the bellhousing to adapter I would recommend that for an $800 1uz to R150 Kit, it could come with bolts.

12/5/14 update: Talked to swap maker and he realized this was an issue and has since corrected it. Some of the bolt holes just had to be widened to fit the bolts. Should not be an issue with current production kits according to the seller (1uzfeswapkit.com)

I think it's a much better option than throwing a 350 in the truck. If your going to do it, do it right and keep it all toyota!

I'm sending my lower intake manifold, water bridge, and fuel rails to a guy in Canada to fit an M112 blower. A 1uz is ok alone, but there is nothing beter than a boosted engine!

Supercharging a 1UZ

For anybody who is thinking about supercharging a 1UZ I wanted to point out a few things you will need. The stock 1uz ECU can handle up to 12lbs of boost which is much more than you would be getting from the typical M90/M112 roots blower. There is a lot of talk about the M90, but for the money and time, you are wasting it all doing an M90. M112 is the only way to go for a roots blower on a 1uz. It should yield around 6lbs of boost at most without getting into the heavy costing items. What I am going with.
1. M112 from mustang cobra. Some people used lightning m112, which should be the same, but the snout length is different on certain m112 blowers and I know for sure the cobra will work.
2. Lower intake manfold to take the M112. I am having mine made by a guy in canada who is very good at this. I found him on lextreme. He has to moddify the lower intake, fuel rail, and front water bridge. The supercharger will fit nice and low on the motor.
3. Larger fuel injetors. Some have run the factory 1uz injectors, but I would never do that as if it ever leaned out to much, you have predonations and potential serious problems. I used 7mge non turbo supra injectors, which are 315cc in size
4. water/methanol kit. Heat is very bad, and without an intercooler system, the air needs to be cooled. Water/Meth is a cheap and reliable way to cool the air. I am, at this piont, going with an AEM kit.

In total, my supercharger cost will be roughly 1600 in parts, plus whatever my machinest charges to modify the M112 to work. All in all, a very worthwhile cost to add 100rwhp and such a sexy sound to your vehicle.

M112

Picked up the M112 yesterday. Will have to grind off the inner lip underneath the supercharger so that it will mate with the modified lower intake manifold.
Also was emailed that marlin crawler had the R150f short throw shifters back in stock, so I ordered that as well. My shift was sloppy anyway and needed a new replacement.

From a guy who has previously installed an M62 (TRD supercharger) on a 3.4, this m112 is massive compared to that. I was shocked at how much bigger this supercharger is compared to the smaller TRD unit. I was getting 9lb of boost on that little M62 with the URD fuel upgrade kit, I'm hoping for 6-7lb on this unit with a 3.25" 6 rib pulley and AEM water/meth kit for boosted gasoline engines.

One humble question, why can't you use an engine out of a late 80's or early 90's Cressida? I see loads of low km examples around BC.
regards

You could, not sure why you would want too though. There have been some supra 7mgte swaps, but I'm a bigger fan of v8s and supercharges more than smaller displacement and turbo.

I'm hoping by end of July. It's a full restoration that I'm getting perfect inside and out though, so it could be longer. Currently the stages go as follows
1. Sas ( about 1/2 done)
2. Body work, paint, and upholstery
3. Engine install and tuning

Love this thread! Is is necessary to use the SC400 instrument cluster instead of the LS400... or even possibly the stock 4Runner cluster?

Just came across a LS400 with some rear end damage, gonna check to see if it's going to be worth getting as a donor.
