95 Fuel Pressure Regulator Install

1995 v6 4runner, SR5

I thought this one was going to be easy, but i'm stumped. As I realized taking the old one out, the straight barb for the vac hose is too long, and prevents the unit from being spun 360 degrees past the EFI unit, to unscrew it.

What's the trick for getting the new regulator back on?

ALso: has anyone put one of these on?

You'll need to pull the intake. Once pulled off to the side, the R&R is quite easy

Having pulled the intake on our 4runner multiple times for other repairs(FI reseal, intake reseal, etc..) it did not seem too bad.
regards

removal of Air intake

I've never done that. It looks like it's easy to screw up....lol

Now I know why they had the fuel regulator with the bent barb....

Question Code #26 Fixes/Removing And Replacing Fuel Pressure Regulator Without Removing Plenum

[QUOTE=smallstar;1163287]1995 v6 4runner, SR5

Does anyone have the trick to replacing this FPR without removing the plenum or ruining the new FPR?? I am about to solve this problem....one way or another. This all is from trying to kill #26 forever.
This stubborn returning Code #26 is running me mad. I have replaced ALMOST everything else I can think of. Battled my way through the #52 'Code Of Death" replaced the knock sensor, all ignition components, filters, run Red Line Cleaner... #14 code suddenly went away....now this #26 has me totally baffled. Any ideas?? Thanks. Pyroslinger

I know this is a bit late but I am going through this right now on my 94 3.0. It's actually pretty easy.
- Disconnect the 3 vacuum lines on the driver side of the upper plenum (2 go to the throttle body, 1 to the FPR).
- Remove the 2 bolts that hold down the vacuum pipe bracket and move out of the way. This will expose 2 ledges on the plenum that the bracket bolts to.
- With a dremel or other grinder tool and a sanding drum roll, grind off a very slight amount of the corner of the front ledge (closest to front of engine). It doesn't take much.
- Loosen the FPR until the fuel nipple bumps into the ledge to gauge how much to remove. Keep shaving off small amounts of the corner of the ledge until the FPR nipple can spin past the ledge.
- Once enough is shaved away, you can spin the FPR off of the fuel rail and replace it with a new unit.
- And don't worry, if you only shave enough off to allow the FPR to be removed, you won't weaken the ledge the vacuum bracket bolts to.

Hope that helps anyone that stumbles across this.
