This is on the assumption that the '90 is the same as a '95:

It helps to drain it first by the bottom plug. Get a floor jack and wide block(s) to support tank. Toughest part is removing the filler and vent tubes, reached by removing the cover plate in the fenderwell. The engine feed line is on top, reached through the access hole under the rear seat--this is also where you disconnect the wiring harness, and bend open any metal clips that hold the wires (these will bend back when reassembled). The return and EVAP hoses are also on top, but towards the middle of the truck--release clamps blind and pull hoses off from near driveshaft. Bolts front and rear hold both tank and shield. Tank must slide forward slightly before lowering all the way, and check for add'l metal wire clips running toward front of tank--bend out of way, or tank will hang up on sending unit wire. Lower away. Like the manuals always say, installation is the reverse of removal (LOL). I hope I didn't forget anything. Best of luck!

Look for a Haynes manual for your truck. They are well-illustrated and have step-by-step instructions for almost anything you will work on. Canadian Tire sells them.

Toyota Repair Manual covering Pick-ups ('79-'95), 4Runner ('84-'95), and SR5 Pick-up ('79-'95) (excludes diesel engine, T100 or Tacoma information)

It would figure--I comment on removing a gas tank, so my truck decides to develop a mystery fuel leak and probably force me to remove my own! Judging from where it's wet on top, it seems to be seeping out of the sending unit gasket. I'm really starting to dislike my truck. (note steam coming out of ears...)

3VZE Fuel Pump replacement(in process), pics
This link might help. I posted this a while back when replacing the fuel pump, and had to drop the tank.

Probably needs the sending unit gasket in the pick. You might pick one up at the dealer, toyota upgraded this part. Definitely an improvement over the original.

Dam rusty ass screws on them gas tanks

Instead of starting a new thread I figured I just pig this one. I wish I could have found it BEFORE I started!!! Had a gas leak on my 93 and couldnt tell where it was coming from but down the frame and tank.

After spending 3 hours trying to get rusty screws out the tank cover. I made a new best friend. DREMEL

Before I had a Dremel tool, I just dusted the edge of a riffler file to create a slot for a slotted screwdriver for those pesky Phillips 2 screws on top of the sending unit or on top of the fuel pump assembly. Coat everything in grease when you re-install (if yo are installing new) ive never seen an oil leaky engine rust, same goes with fuel lines. If it leaks fuel, it'll wash the grease off anyhow so no worries about it masking any leaks. if you can run the tank as low as you can, go for it, I just got under it an used a 3/8" impact and let the tank drop onto my chest and then rolled over with it and placed it on the ground
