Fuel pressure test?
My 22re is running crappy missfiring and eventually backfiring. I have replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil. Next I plan on checking voltage to the fuel pump and I know I can get a fuel pressure test kit at schucks. I have never done the pressure test. Where do you conntect the pressure gauge?

Good question. Possibly on the fuel dampener or drill and tap a fitting on the fuel rail?

On a side note, have you checked your injectors electronics? you can do that with a multimeter. It will give you an idea if one has a short or something. Although they can be fine electrically and be plugged up.

Well I havent had much time to tinker, but the weather has been good enough to ride my bike to work.
Got some time today to work on it. Im throwing a code 3. From what I've found on the net a code 3 is:
No signal from igniter 4 times in succession
- Defective Igniter
- Defective Main Relay circuit
- Defective ECU
I have a buddy who is a Toyota mechanic and he says if the igniter is bad on our trucks it won't run. My truck is running, just running crappy. No my question is, what is the "Main Relay circuit" and how do I test it?

I was able to rent a pressure test kit from Schucks. I was able to plug the tester into the banjo fitting on the cold start injector. Pressure is good.

I was able to find the Main relay and it tested good also. I did find a bad wire going to my O2 sensor. It is broken right at the connector so Im headed to the junk yard to see if I can find another. Im not throwning an O2 code tho...?

Hit the Jalopy Jungle and was able to find a connector to fix the bad wire going to my O2 sensor. This didn't fix the problem. Couldnt find and ECU at the JJ, but called Barger Mattson and they said there is a ECU out of a 87 4 Runner at another junk yard down the road. I ran out of time and havent called on it yet. Its about an hour away... sure wish I knew for sure its the ECU.

Talked to my Toyota mechanic buddy and he said it doesnt sound like the ECU, I guess they rarely go bad? He was thinking it could be a bad pick up in the distributor. I found a guy on CL that had a used distributor... guess what? Its not the distributor... The truck runs exactly the same with the "new" distributor. Back to the drawing board. This guy also had a ignitor he said he would sell me for 80 bucks. Even though my Toyota guy said that my truck would not run if the ignitor was bad I think I might give it a shot...

Don't get hasty. Let me check when I get home in the morning, but I may have a coil and igniter laying around you can borrow for the price of shipping, if you'd like.

Pull the spark plug, put it back in the wire boot, and hold it near a ground source like the block while the engine is running. You're looking for a strong blue spark to arc to ground every time it fires. If you can't clearly see it spark in the daylight or it's not sparking at the same intensity every time, that's trouble.

I found it. PM me your address again and I'll drop it in a box. Keep it as long as you need to isolate and then send it back, or if it ends up fixing your trouble make me an offer on it, whatever works for you.
