I finally found one that I think my dad is going to go and look at. Hopefully it hasn't sold already.

It sold the day after it was posted.
I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
Here is a pic if you didn't see the ad.

That red one was really nice. Now that you're officially in the market for one get some money lined up and check CL every morning before breakfast.

Are you the happy kid hanging out the window? It's cool to find your dad's old thread. Did he tell you how much he sold it for? I may have mentioned a time or twelve that I bought an 88 that color new and sold it in 1996 when my oldest was on the way. He's 16 and pissed about it. I bought a new 97 but it got totaled and I got the 00 used with the insurance money.
Now that you've decided to get a 1st gen you should be seeing them start to pop up in the spring. There's usually more old cars for sale in the spring because people clean out their garages and can wash and fix up the old truck they never drive any more. Have your funds lined up and keep looking. I just saw a really nice red 1st gen here in Richmond for $3500, 22RE 5 speed so they are out there.
I think your dad's old 4Runner is the best looking 1st gen on here. I wonder if the new owners are taking care of it.

Yes, I am the happy kid in the window. I really want to get a first gen, but my dad has mixed emotions. He is OK with them, but he doesn't want to pay for the extra insurance, more gas, maintenance, and a carport for it. A couple of weeks ago, I convinced him to call Illzoni about his 4Runner here in Nashville and we were going to go look at it but my dad really didn't like it because it looked really bad and was kinda rigged up in places. The point where he said no was when Jon said it had stock gearing and there went that idea. So I might get a 4Runner eventually, or I might be 30 mpg ricer boy for a while lol.
I am pretty sure he sold it for a steal (3500) and when he told me I got kinda mad because if he kept it until now and sold it he could have probably gotten 6 or 7 grand around here. But if he did keep it, it would have 750,000 miles at this point. I kind of want to see it, but I am afraid that it is trashed after six years- hope not!

I really hope u find the 4Runner of your dreams. Don't give up hope and don't settle for a rusted out pos. Maybe u need to come out west n find a clean rust-free 1st Gen. Rent a U-haul and take it home.

I hope I find the 4Runner of my dreams too! It might just not happen for a while. My dad has convinced me to get a matrix for college due to the high gas mileage, lots of storage space, and the fact that they aren't almost 30 years old. We've just been hunting for the right VVTL-i 6 speed and they are rare. I will have a 4Runner sometime in my life, but it will be when I have my own good source of income and my own garage. Who knows, I might even get my dad's 2004 when he gets a newer one in about 5-10 years.

A matrix? Oh man that's tough. What about a Scion XB? They're a little cooler at least. I understand where ur old man is coming from. He's just being practical and looking out for ur best interest. I know cause I just did the same thing with my son. Talked him out of a Wrangler and into an Accord. He's a college student and works part-time at a grocery store. Practicality ruled the day... Still sucks though.
