I want to do some 'upgrades' to my '88 RNR. I also like sticking with factory Toyota parts whenever possible. I've heard that T-100 cv axles are beefier and a direct swap. What year? Any year? Also heard Landcruiser brakes are interchangeable... which part? Master cyl.? Booster? Which year? Also what other parts from other Toyota models interchange? I read online that the MR-2 alternator(110 amp) is a direct swap for u 2nd Gen guys. It would be nice to have a reference list of all the swappable(?) stuff our members have discovered. Years, models, even part#s if possible. I only bring this up because on another forum I'm on they do this. (Example: Durango steering box upgrade for Wranglers, Grand Cherokee tie-rod upgrade for Wranglers etc.) Please enlighten me. Thanks!

T100 axles are used in the long-travel IFS suspensions. They're too long unless you lengthen your A arms. I dunno about landcruiser, but the V6 trucks had calipers that are beefier than the 4cyl trucks. Same with the master cylinder and booster. The '82 Supra 5MGE AFM is a 3" bore and plug and play with the 22RE AFM. Other Supra AFMs fit too but you have to swap the circuit board and other guts into the new AFM.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's more.

I think most people upgrade the brakes by replacing the rear drum brakes with 4cyl front disks and v6 front disks in the front.

The part about swapping Land Cruiser brake parts only applies to the solid axle trucks (79-85). The vented LC rotors combined with IFS truck/Runner V6 calipers are a direct bolt-on swap. (NOTE - IFS rotors will not work, they must be 1983 or so LC rotors The larger bore MC from a V6 truck can be bolted too, but it isn't "required".

I did the LC rotor/V6 caliper swap on my 83 and 84 and kept the stock MC's. When the MC on the 84 finally wore out I did install a V6 MC last year. I took pics of the whole things but never posted them.

Swapping front disk brakes to the rear axle really doesn't work well. If you want rear disk brakes get one of the conversion kits on the market, they work better.

Well I was pleased to find out something new but hoping for more... Anyone else have anything to add? Feel free. So far:

V6 calipers, master cylinders, and brake booster for 4cyl. trucks
'82 Supra 5MGE AFM 3" bore upgrade for any 22RE
Beefier T-100 axles will bolt-in but are longer and require longer A-arms
MR2 110 amp alt. swap for 3.0 V6s
For 79-85 solid axles only- L/C vented rotors, IFS V6 calipers and master cyl.

Well, if you've got a pre-85 block, the 20r head will swap on and give better compression. The '86+ rear axle is wider than pre-'86, so that's a common swap for earlier trucks too. The manual hubs are a bolt-on upgrade for ADD trucks. Second gen trucks can be found with 4.56 and 4.88 diffs which are directly swappable to any other first or second gen.

1995 to 1997 subaru legacy rear shoulder-style seat belts (and the center lap belt) will transfer to the rear of a 1st gen, so that you have rear shoulder belts. these were apparently not common in the 4r, so it's a cheap, easy way to get functional belts (there are plenty of legacy wagons out there). these mount to the factory 4r seat belt mounting locations, including using the two roll-bar points for the retractor and shoulder "loop".

the mod does leave the retractor uncovered, so you'd have to either live with it, or enclose it to your taste. the "roof anchor extension" on the subaru belt must be removed, but that comes off in two minutes using a grinder to cut the rivet. that's it. the belts don't need to be shortened.

I hear the T-100 rotors, calipers, and pads fit '86-95 IFS trucks. Whats the largest M/C that'll fit. I swapped a G144 front axle out of a '93 into my '88. Just had to swap the ADD for my axle.

Here is my brake setup from my '85 SA, every thing is basically bolt on;
IFS calipers and land cruiser rotors (installed when bought, unsure of exact parts)
Landcruiser 1" bore MC
T-100 dual diaphram brake booster
FROR manual proportioning valve kit (LSPV delete)
Stock rebuilt rear drums

This setup works awesome and can lock up my 37" tires.

Not much of a life hack, but FJ40 bikini tops fit real nice on the back of a 1st gen runner.

I'm gonna need to do this my stockers with brand new drums and rotors on the 85 can hardly stop my 31's

Do you remember where you read this because i am looking for a cheap way to upgrade my charging system so i can run my subs with out as much of a drain and im very interested in that
