On my 86' 4runner (after doing a 302 V8 swap) I wanted to keep better tabs on the water temp, and oil pressure so I upgraded the gauges. After spending all my $$$ on gauges I didn't have enough funds to buy an A-pillar pod, so I mounted them on the dash where the inclinometer would normally go. I bought a $10 universal pod and made a base plate that fit the contour of the dash to mount it to.

Also on my 86' I built a lockable center console with a drink holder , I plan to build something similar for my 87', but with 2 drink holders.

On my 87' I'm currently in the middle of retrofitting a dodge durango rear seat into the back. I have the passenger side done, just need to finish the driverside and figure out the center section with the fold down armrest/cupholders.

Bump!

Bringing this thread back. I'm going to be making some interior cargo area side panels with doors. Looking for some pics for inspiration, what have you guys done? I'm also going to build a new lockable center console/armrest with cupholders. It will be a little different than the one I built in the above post. Already have some cupholder inserts ordered. They are universal stainless steel inserts, also got some black plastic ones, not sure which I will use yet. Wouldn't mind seeing some pics of what others have done for their center consoles let's see some pics!

Here's a couple pics of where I am so far with the side panels, I still need to cut out for the doors. I ordered a 5/16 Crater Maker dimple die to make some cool raised holes for the mounting holes, also plan to run some sort of bead pattern on the panels, I just bought a beadroller from Woodward Fab, can't wait to use it!

did this awhile ago
The red light on the driver's side door light died a little while ago. It was weird that the housing still had power but no bulb would work (even when swapped from passenger side)
Dug into the box of crap that had been for the Trekker and found some stuff.
added a rock light to use as a courtesy light and replaced door light with a KC LED cyclone light

Passenger Side

Driver's side door open:

Old dome light switch gave up the ghost, tried soldering it but that lasted about a week. Dug into the parts stash and decided to make a small upgrade in brightNess

Night shot of the new dome light

with the rear cargo lights *and courtesy lights

Looking at it i could have used more of the original console for more of a fascia covering.
maybe on version 2.0*

Nice work on the LED's, man those LED dome lights really make a huge difference, I need to upgrade to those!

Is that a Tuffy security console? Looks good!

Thanks! it is a tuffy console out of a samurai..craigslist score. I just had to order lock set for it. I don't think the seller knew what it was.
I like it because it is narrower than the locking console I had in the 81 that bound up on the seats when reclining

What floor mats are y'all using that fit best in the 2nd Gens?

Unrelated, but saw this 1st Gen map light console on CL...not mine.:

I used 18 gauge sheetmetal, I probably could have used 20 gauge. These panels are just for practice, I would like to eventually use aluminum, but want to get some practice in with the bead roller first.

Here'so a couple pics of 2 different styles of rear cargo doors I made and also a tailgate panel:

Center console, switch location for roof rack lights:

And corresponding fuse/relay panel in rear storage hole (forgive superglue haze, looks better in person):

And I covered up a previous owners attempted tweeter hole with a custom made patch. I found the company on eBay. Awesome. All the doors have it now:

Matches the TRD stickers on the outside

And finally some iron-on patches to fix the seat hole. Actually worked pretty good.
