Welcome statement and pictures of my rock rig

New to forum. Been on Pirate for years but never knew this forum existed. Here are some pictures of my rig. I still have alot of left over IFS stuff if anyone needs it - including a tru-trac IFS diff with 4.88s and a set of 33x10.50x15 KM2s with 90% tred left. I am in southern AZ

The rig is a 1990 with its third 22re. Chassis is about 300,000 miles. It has dual ultimate cases SAS. 5.29s and detroits front and rear. Hy steer and custom triple stick shifter. It sits on some 37x17s and has taco brakes up front. Used some creativity and 1.5" body lift/drive train lift to clear its new shoes.

Next on the list is lighting, dual batteries, armor and tire carrier.

Thanks for the compliments. I am quite proud of it since it is the first SAS I've done (mostly by myself). Regrettably I don't have a build thread. I lurk on pirate and those guys are so far ahead of me in fabrication I didn't want to put up another SAS thread.

I am more than willing to answer questions though, and I have a ton of in progress pictures still, so if there is enough interest I could always put one up here.

I tried to make as much use of OEM Toyota parts as possible so I could keep trail spares in my rig, although some things had to be custom fab'd/modified; especially because of drive train lift.

Welcome! Not many 2nd gens with a 22re around! We are a rare breed!
What tranny are you running? Or do you just have an adapter?

Nice rig, welcome to the site.

Now you and your passenger get your hands back inside the truck.

I knew someone was going to bring up the hands! But very true none the less

No adapter. I blew my third gear out of my stock Trans in downtown LA last year doing donuts like an idiot. Had to drive all the way back to tucson like that. Thing finally siezed 20 yards from my driveway in Tucson. Found a G54 with a tcase bolted to it on CL for 150. Was pretty gnarly looking so ripped it apart and rebuilt and sealed it. At the same time upgraded the case to 4.7s and converted to top shift. Put a built case from marlin in the middle because couldn't find a junker for decent price and the heart of my build was spawned. The hardest part was getting the triple shift to work. I'll post some pictures of the interior when I get back to my hotel. I think it's pretty slick.

I spent nearly a year looking for a 22re 2nd gen. When I found one it was beat and had already been swapped once. My ex ended up blowing the motor one day on her way to work. It was a catastrophic failure.

Replaced the motor with an 85 from a dolphin. Yes a 4cyl in a motor home. It only had 30,000 miles on it so I took the chance and it's been trugging for last 3 (maybe 4 or 5) years like that at least. I'm kind of hoping the thing blows so I can justify putting a 3RZ in it sooner then later. I'm stuck on the 3rz because it'll work with my drive train lift with minimal modification.

Driving the 22re with 37s or even the 35s on the interstate sucks if I have to go up in elevation at all. Once I Exo and armor it it'll be completely out of the question with that extra weight.

Yup. I've got a buddy with an 87 with chevies/RUF on 37s and he hates it. I love blowing him out of the water on every tiny little hill or crosswind.

Crosswind !! Ha!!! Very true. I'll lose you in the rocks every time though. Those full size V8s take a lotta work to be rock warriors.

My interior is almost finished. I don't have any pictures of it here. Here's a picture from FB when it was still being assembled

Vee eight schmee eight! A 22RE with 5.29s and skinny 33s goes about anywhere, almost as fast as I want .

Will that 3RZ be enough for those 37s? Tacomaworld has a couple 3RZ Tacos on the big meats, and they don't like it much either.

Before I stepped up I ran 22re with 4.88s an 33x10.5s and she did pretty good. Just very sketch ball in the rocks.

My 22re with 5.29s and a 200:1 reduction gets me anywhere I need to go in 4x4. I tow long distance if Im going to be hard wheeling, but the truck still sees some surface street use so I just need something to pep it up.

3RZ is perfect for my application, I can keep my trans and drivetrain lift, along with my gears. It gets better mileage, OBDII, and nets m3 50% power gain over what I already have. If I really need more power, its a better base to try and crank a few hamsters out of then the 22r for sure. At least thats my thoughts.

I looked into JZ swaps and 1UZs but I go pretty far out, and need something that sips gas.

I was wondering that too but it took me a minute before I saw a 4runner in that pic.

With that gold paint, that truck brings back memories of my last beast. Welcome to the forum, and congrats on a nice 2nd Gen!
